Don't know if you got your answer. I found my Timing gear/chain set worn very badly. Cam bouncing. Causing the distributor to misfire between 2000 to 3000 rpm. You can check your play by pulling the distributor cap. Then bar the crank damper back and forth. The rotor button should rotate at exactly the same time the serpentine belt moves. Best way to do this, is to have somebody bar the engine while you put one hand on the rotor and your other hand on the A/C pulley. Rotor and pulley should start to move together. Check by rotating the other way. There will be play only if you reverse directions. If so, pull the timing chain cover and check the gears. Hope this helps.

My 1.6 ford focus zetec is taking too long to start either cold oo warm. (2007)

Any number of thing's could cause this condition , Weak fuel pump , low fuel volume , an engine sensor , mass air flow for one , A crank sensor that is going bad , cam sensor etc... your best bet would be to have it diagnosed professionally , rather then guessing an just replacing parts

What is causing random misfire?

Fuel filter,vaccum leak,plug gap.

Dying, not starting after it's been warmed up. Runs beautiful on cold engine. Replaced plugs, wire, cap, rotor and crank position sensor, no luck.

Your car cold start valve puts more gas into the system keeping your engine running higher RPM. When you car warms up, the cold start valve will stop working and your car RPM will drop. What you could have is a vacuum hose disconnected which puts more air into your engine - therefore when you press on the gas pedal, your engine would shut off or you find lack of power and then shut off.

Pull the distributor. Check the gear on the bottom of it. Replace a bunch of them for wear. Causes no power and bad timing. Depending on wear. Replace the gear or the distributor.

98 Pontiac GRAND am

The plugs and crank sensor could have done it, but the TPS and idle air control would have nothing to do with a random miss.
A more likely cause is the ignition module or a fuel problem. You may have to wait until the problem is bad enough to kill the engine or you have more codes to check out.

The crank and cam sensors would be a huge problem - the car wouldn't work if the sensors were at absolute nonfucntion, but you'd have issues if the sensor's issues were intermittent.

Crank sensor is primarily for the spark and the cam sensor is for fuel management, crank/cam correlation for misfire purposes I would also change the wires.

I have a 96 chevy 1500 w a vortec 4.3L engine. Starts good and runns good until it warms up! After that there are multi misfires and will almost die! We have change the fuel pump, fuel filter, plugs,...

Here is some ideas coil pack, out of time, new wires, dist.cap, throttle position sensor, idle control valve, or take you air hose from air filter and check the wire screen inside you mass air flow sensor and make sure it's not plugged. That year of truck can be checked with a obd scan free at Auto Zone or Advance Auto Parts.

starting definately has a lot to do with the crank/cam position sensors, but it wouldnt have nothing to do with hot or cold weather, oxygen sensor will make the vehicle run too rich if its out, you will smell fuel very strong out the exhaust, that could make it run sluggish also, and usually if the mass air flow sensor goes out the vehicle wont start at all...
