I have a 2002 isuzu Rodeo and I'm getting a P1220 code (throttle position sensor 2 circuit)....replaced the TPS but code is back and it burning a ton of gas even on short runs....any ideas?
Hi there:
Other than a bad connection / chaffed wire etc - which can happen - so be sure all is ok there - then the problem is going to be a faulty TPS ... throttle position sensor / switch..
This isn't unusual to happen / go wrong on these - No amount of re learn procedures will cure a faulty one Im afraid - so its a new one that is needed to cure these issues that you have with this one.
The TPS ( sensor ) is at the pedal on this one.... and its this that Im referring too. This can be checked using diagnostic equipment - using live data - it can be checked to see f its working and when its not etc.
Not all garages would be able to do this depending on what equipment they have and their level of knowledge - but I would suggest it would be a good idea to have it checked out as above to confirm the fault ..
You have the TCU - Throttle control unit - but thats inside and a part of the TPM - Throttle position motor ...on the engine.
Your fault codes though would indicate the TPS - at the pedal.
There is also a common fault on these that causes throttle / power loss... Im not so sure this fits the symptoms you describe but it might be worth a consideration... For this - a reprogram / software update has to be performed by either a Fiat dealer - or some garage that has the equipment to do that ....It might be worth you having a word with the local Fiat dealers to have that side of things done in any case - again - as its a common fault.
Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.
Thank you for using FixYa, have a nice day.

The sensor should be right there where the intake air duct meets the air filter housing.
That oil down in the spark plug tube is most likely from a leaking valve gover gasket. Oil in there can and will cause misfires.

Did you replace the fuel filter? It sounds like that may be the issue.

Go to myisuzuparts.com and find this part number. This part is under the intake manifold. No crank sensor as is has a distributor.

Do you know the OBDII codes? I just had to replace my Mass Air Flow sensor, it seems to have fixed my problems. But check the error codes.
