Won't retrieve Scanner Codes.

When I plug my Snap-on scan tool in, it says that there's no communication with ECM. Fuse is good. Any suggestions?

There should be 12 volts present at terminal 16 of the OBD II diagnostic connector, this is the lower row of terminals, last terminal on the right, this is the same no matter who makes the car on all 1996 OBD II systems, if no voltage is present check your fuse panel, most likely the fuse will be blown for the cigar lighter or the accessory 12 volt power point, not sure what it is called in your Audi. Hope this helps.

Dodge ram won't start and ECM light and check

First you need to retrieve the trouble codes stored in the computer. If you don't have a code reader or scan tool you can take it to your local autoparts store (advance auto, autozone, ect) and they can retrieve them for you. Then we can go from there.

The check engine light is on. i tried talking with the ECM with a mt 2500 snap-on scanner.the scanner reads no communication. do the haynes manuals have wiring diagrams, and because the ECM;S are under the...

Check the fuses. you will have one for ecm, also check the cigarette lighter fuse. they some times the dlc in with that fuse. it is best to remove the fuse when checking, I have found that they loose contact and removing them fixes problems. Haynes manuals do have electrical for the computers.

Does anyone know how to retrieve engine codes for a 2001 pontiac grand prix, or do you have to have a scanner?

You need to have a OBDII scanner reader. Most auto Parts store like Auto Zone or Parts Source will scan free of charge and will give you the recommended instructions to address the issues your car's ECM has detected. Good luck and hope this was good news for you and thank you for using Fixya.
