2004 Highlander rear hatch sets off the alarm.

2004 highlander rear hatch alarm goes off when opening with key. If the doors are locked with the fob, or interior lock mechanism, if I try to open the rear hatch with the key the alarm goes off. If I unlock any of the other doors, then I can use the key to open the rear hatch without setting off the alarm. Toyota has nor been able to solve this problem. Any ideas?

The switch is bad on the rear hatch cylinder

Testimonial: "Thanks, that sounds about right. I will open up the panel this weekend and try to get a look at it. I took it to two different dealers and they could not figure that out. Looks like a replacement is only about $70."

SOURCE: Keys & fob locked inside toyota highlander. help?!

there's a door opening kit the tow truck people cary with them.
what you need to do is calling one of them and ask them if they have one. if they do they will come and open it and they only charge you a towing fee. if you have towing coverage with your insurance, just ask them to write you a towing bill then your insurance will reimburse you for it

The rear door on my 2010 highlander says it's open and getting nuisance alarms. I know the sensor is in the locking mechanism, however that part is $400. Where is the door ajar chime so I can remove it?

Here is what another Highlander owner said: "2010 Highlander 4WD: System check panel I indicating the rear door is open, when it's not. Been to dealer 3 times. Car has 6000 miles on it. The rear door open indicator effects door locking ability with key fob as well as continual chime indicating rear door is open in conjunction with turning dome light off and on. Dealer thought it was rear door strike plate. Adjusted accordingly. This was not the problem. 3rd visit to dealer still trying to pinpoint why this is happening so far no luck. Electrical bad door sensor faulty electrical door switch this problem is very annoying and now times consuming 3 visits to the dealer and still no solution. Rear door open indicator initially made to stop by rolling down driver side window at highway speed. Indicator also made to go off when road turns to the left only. <- " moisture causing short in rear door electrical switch" maybe.

something like this. You can remove it.

In my vehicle there is a botton in the glovebox that gets accidently switched off. there is a child safety button to prevent automatic door closing...highlander may have this switch as well.

How do you replace the high mount stop light bulb on the 2004 highlander?

Did my 2005 highlander. You replace from the inside. On the inside of the rear hatch, the top center plastic molding gentle snaps off. You twist out the bulb holder and replace with one #921 bulb

Key fob will not unlock driver door. It will

I would suggest a new key fob and get the dealers to program it so you know it all works.Yes some vehicles can be programmed by swinging on the aerial and pressing the rear tailgate all at the same time whilst turning the ignition on with the left foot whilst the right foot is on the am/fm radio button but whenever i have followed the instructions to the letter its far easier if the car is connected the dealers computer

Back hatch door closed on strap of backpack-now can't open door

Try pressing down on the trunk /hatch and at the same time turn the key to try and open it. It might take a lot of downware pressure to finally get it to come open.
