The temp gauge will go in red and my high temp light comes on after just a few miles. radiator is new. no leaks. a yr ago i had the radiator fan on the passenger side go out but couldnt afford to fix it. i was told by a non certified shade tree mechanic it may be a relay or temp censor? another shade tree mechanic said i had a bad wire leading to the "bad" fan. he didnt have the means to fix it so he spliced the other wire which brought it power but now both fans are running one soeed only. low. the ac only blows on the "5" setting, no lower.

The electric fans on some vehicles dont stay on all the time. If the radiator is not burningyou then i would suspect the guage is bad. The engine would throw a code if the fan was not working properly, so im pretty sure that your fan is working properly. I hope that helps you out.

either the temp sensor is bad but, it sounds like the fan relay is stuck.
replace the relay its in the fuse box.

Better make sure the fan works. There is a switch on the radiator that turns the fan on when it gets to a certain temperature. It could be the fan or the switch. Your thermostat is not your cap, it's in a different location. (Usually at the engine end of the upper radiator hose) Get the leak check! A good garage can pressure test the system to see what leaks you might have.

Check engine light? Sounds like a bad coolant temp sensor.
