I have a 1996 VW jetta the ac compressor doesnt even work my cars ac doesnt even work but it is making this bad scrubing noise really bad when i first crank it in the am . Is it possible to by pass the ac commpressor buying another belt with no ac ?
Yes you can bypass the ac compressor with a shorter belt, however it may take a few tries to get the right length belt. Even if they have a belt for a non ac Jetta, the belt sometimes isn't the right length.

Have you ever attempted this your self ? J/W on how hard this is gonna be my car only has one belt running everything ? The reason i think it is the ac commpressor we just changed the alternator and spun the pulley on it and it sounded bad and my car after changing the alternator is still making this awful sound . I will try this today or tomorrow the parts store told me to take a piece of yarn and measure that way . Let me know if u have ever tried this .

Yes you can get a shorter belt and bypass the ac. It may be as simple as going to the parts store and tell them you have 2001 jetta no ac. Just keep the receipt.
You should also disconnect the a/c compressor connectors/wires/plugs also, try doing this before you bypass the ac first incase doing so gives you warning lights on the dash board.
Also know that the defrost setting uses the a/c so it will take longer to get the condensation off the inside of the window.

You may not be full of refrigerant... There is a low pressure switch that prevents the AC from actuating the clutch, and the reason is: IF there is not enough refrigerant, you will not be able to move oil through the system and you will have major damage...so no engauge...
Get the system checked, most likely there is a leak somewhere..

Go to volkswagen for the fluid.
I am assuming you are talking about an automatic transmission? if so any aftermarket fluid will make short work of your transmission.
if you are talking about a manual transaxle..then I hear good things about Redlines' MT fluid

yes, you can take a piece of yarn and do it that way, just make sure it is snug when you mark it. I have done that for lawnmower pulley belts. It won't be hard for that car to run everything on one belt. Most likely the clutch is bad on the front of the ac compressor....which I believe can be changed cheaper than replacing the whole compressor.
By the way my a/c comm. locked up the pulley stopped turning and i couldnt by pass it with another belt cause it had two and if i would have the only problem it would have rubbed against the water pump so that didnt work . I ended up having to order a by pass pulley off ebay cause no part store sells them here Thanks for you help
