1998 GMC surburban transmission, runs fine when first started up

No sliping or nothing, once it gets warmed up it shuts down with a little rattle in the transmission. Must shut off engine and restart and it will go a ways then the transmission shuts down again like your in neutral.

Sounds like clutch material is clogging your filter and you are losing pressure. You can try a trans flush and new filter but that would be just a band aid. What happens is the clutch fibers clog the filter and whed you shut it down they fall off but when you start it up again they get sucked back in and it clogs again.

My 1998 gmc snonma votec wont start it cranks and cranks and after about 20 mins it starts after that i can shout it off and it will fire back up fine then a day will go by and it dose the same thing

You have to check the fuel pump pressure to make sure it is supplying sufficient fuel pressure..Try turning the switch to on but do not start..now listen for the fuel pump to prime the system..it should run for 4-5 seconds the shut off..now try and start..if it is fully primed it should start...note although you are getting some gas dosent mean the pump is ok...sometimes it starts to go bad and then all at once it will let you down for good...have it checked out..good luck

1998 malibu won't shift into gear when cold outside but, works fine in warm weather, why?

you need a transmission fluid and filter changed.because if filter stopped up.transmission fluid little thicker in cold climate make it hard circulate through filter.when engine and fluid get warmer fluid get thinner where it can circulate through filter cause transmission to shift correctly.

Reverse won't work on my 1994 GMC Surburban 4x4. Only 90K miles, truck is in great shape otherwise. All other gears work fine. Tranny fluid looks and smell fine, it was changed in the last 12K miles.

If you have no reverse, more than likely, you have either a stripped or broken sunshell, assuming you have the 4L60E transmission. Are you absolutely sure you have all forward gears? Another indication of the sunshell being defective, will be no engine braking in manual second.

I need help

Check fluid in transmission with the car in park AND the engine running AND the engine warmed up. Could be low fluid in the converter.

Also could be a vacuum leak. Check ALL vacuum hoses for disconnection or cracking throughout the engine compartment AND especially any going to the trqansmission.

Slow shifting when engine is cold

I have the same problem with my 97.... especially shifting from 3rd to O/D... I've had the tranny serviced and flushed.... It still does it until the tranny warms up.... the tranny's in them are temperature picky!!!!! It's the nature of the beast!!! Wait until spring and everything will be good until next winter!!! If you're really concerned with it you can put a "cold front" on it or block half (NO MORE THAN HALF) of the tranny cooler with cardboard thru the winter months
