Hard idling I have a 2003 VW Passat 1.8T. I talked to a mechanic about the rough idle and he told me a couple of possible causes. The first i do not remember.... LOL..... only that it had something to do with maybe a regulator of some kind, located on the engine manifold. The second fix was to remove and either replace the mass air flow sensor or clean it. I was changing the air filter the other day and found the mass air flow sensor, but could not access it easily do to another tube running out of the front of the air box that I couldn't remove because of crimped hose clamp. The hose was made partially from molded plastic and was oddly shaped. It turned 90 degrees straight down. My first question is, does anyone know what the device on the engine manifold is and what I'm suppossed to do with it? Second, are there any other probable causes for the rough idling? Third, what is the hose and where is it running to below the air box?

Are you ONLY using premium gas every time? If not, try only putting premium gas for the next 2 fill ups. See if you see a difference.

I have an 03 vw passat 2.8 4 motion. It keeps overheating! I checked the core and nothing wrong. Changed the thermostat and it still over heats. Now I'm told it might be the water pump. Its fine when I'm...

The water pump is a possibility. It could also be a head gasket leak into the water jacket. At idle the pressure may not be enough to overheat the engine, but acceleration would cause rapid overheating.

What causes a rough idle on a 2003 Nissan Sentra Spec-V? Car otherwise runs fine while driving.

The rough idle is associated with the p011 code. The P011 code is: Camshaft A over advanced. There is a mechanical fault with the intake camshaft.
You need to take the car into a mechanic, preferably the dealer since they have all of the needed special tools, to properly diagnose and repair the issue.

2003 vw golf GTI idling rough

Hi. Please check the spark plugs, if worn this can happen. Also if the injectors are leaking into the cylinders. This i have seen only once in many years on the 2003 GTI.

How do I know when it's time to replace a timing belt on my 2003 Sorento? A local mechanic said it idles rough because the teeth are breaking off on the belt. How would he know that by just replacing spark...

It's unlikely that the cam belt would cause rough idle!!
normally you would change the cambelt after so many miles Mine are always changed after 30k miles regardless. The mechanic was purley guessing.

If the idle is rough then it will be an electronic fault like air flow meter,EGR valve, Idle control unit. etc

Get back to me if you need more info.

Stumbling Idle

possibly ajusting itsself. any severe weather/pressure changes in your area? and if so does your cars cpu compensate for this (thinks its at a different elevation etc then resets its idle proper after a certian time? I have heard of this but not sure if VW uses it) perhaps ask the service tech.

Car stalls and idles rough

On thing to check is the air duct hose that connects from the throttle body to the air cleaner housing. If it gets cracked it will cause stalling problems and very rough idle.
