All the battery does is supply power to the starter to crank the engine over. The alternator doesn't start working until after the engine is started. It supplies electrical power to the engine after it has started and also recharges the battery. If the engine is cranking over but not starting it is neither the alternator or the battery. Check for spark and fuel pressure your most likely missing one of these.

Your alternator might be bad. Check if your alternator is functioning well.

I try to start the engine, it wont and the panel lost its energy, the horn starts to sound very low. I check the battery and its charged, track the positive cable to the fuse box and the voltimeter reads...

you could try the earth terminal.loosen it and move it about and tighten it again.there are times when the reading on the volts can miss lead.
is it 12volts when you crank the engine.if not some component in the car is drawing power when it should not.
things to check ,starter, alternator. etc.
also check when you start does the battery bubble up.(faulty battery)

Starting issues,

have your battery check first.ive never seen a battery that will last for 5 years.shelf life starts as soon as the acid is added to the battery.

My car did cut off @ the stop light but it started back up & it didnt cut off again?? I understand that someone said that it could be the alternater..but im just still tryin to figure out could it...

A LOOSE WIRE AT THE IGNITION COIL OR ALTERNATOR.CAN CAUSE CAR TO DO A QUICK STALL.NOW IF ALTERNATOR BAD YOUR BATTERY CHARGE LIGHT WILL COME ON. ALSO THE CAR WOULD LOSE ALL ELECTRICAL POWER THE BATTERY WOULD BE DEAD.THE CAR WONT CRANK. YOUR ALTERNATOR OUT PUT SHOULD BE 13.5 TO 14.5 VOLTS WITH CAR RUNNING.IF NOT.YOU HAVE ALTERNATOR PROBLEM.NOW WHEN YOUR CAR STALL OUT YOU GOT IT STARTED BACK.YOU COULD HAVE BAD FUEL THAT WILL ALSO STALL YOU OUT.

Cannot get alarm to go off and car wont crank. 1997 Accord

It ended up being my alternator. No one could figure it out with stantard know-how, i had to take it to a Auto Parts Store for a load test on battery, they found the alternator was pulling battery down and causing alarm and security to enable start-up. Thanks for getting back in touch with me.

New battery and it still won't crank at times.

you would need an ohm meter or a test light to figure out what is drawing voltage. you probably have short some where or, just perhaps the ignition switch is bad.

Battary light on , engine cut off car won't crank

sounds like it's your alternator, your alternator charges your battery and runs car once it is started. if you have a bad alternator your battery light will come on, and shortly after your vehicle will die, unable to restart without a jump. I would take your battery to autozone or an auto shop to have your battery and alternator tested.
