Roaring noise from rear of 2002 hyundai santa fe

My daughter just purchased a used Santa Fe and while test driving it, there was no noise. The mechanic changed the timing belt and water pump and after picking up the car, it now has a roaring noise which appears to come from the rear. We took it to a mechanic who felt it was the rear end so we brought it back to the seller who changed the rear. Unfortunately, the noise is still there so we need help trying to figure out what is making this noise.

Yes. Your Local Auto Parts Store should Carry these as Direct Replacements. If Not, Sears Carries them.

This is from the factory service manual of your car:
There is no onboard programming procedure for this vehicle. This vehicle requires special equipment be connected to the vehicle to program the keyless remote. Translation you need the dealer to do this.

2002 Santa Fe loud roaring sound

Usually a roar at speed is a wheel bearing and your hearing the rough roller balls of the bearing making the noise as they rotate while driving. The cost to replace it vaires by the amount of time it takes to remove the old bearing. There is a flat rate but many shops say the flat rate is ______ but that is subject to total job time on a wheel bearing. Usually it costs anywhere from $100- $170 parts and labor.
Bad wheel bearings if they lock up can also many other components if they spin in the housing / bearing race. Do not let it go on for an extended period as it can drastically increase total repair costs.

Thanks for using Fixya.

Our 2001 Santa Fe has developed a roar. I thought

If your noise is a low pitch rumble that gets louder the faster you go, it likely is a wheel bearing that is the cause. Another sign that the noise is from a wheel bearing is if the noise tends to get louder when steering one direction at a steady speed, and quieter when steering the other direction. A transmission noise does not change with the steering.
