Noise coming from rear hub after replacing various fluids
I just replaced the engine oil, differential fluid and rear VTM fluid on my 2003 Pilot. Now all of a sudden it is making strange sounds -- coming from rear hub I think. Does anyone know why it is doing this. Never made this noise before. Sounds like a high to mid-pitched humming/grinding sound.
Re: Noise coming from rear hub after replacing various...
Once you add fluid to the rear differential, you should drive a short distance in forward and reverse. Then take out the fill bolt and add VTM-4 fluid to fill it again. It will take more fluid since driving it a short distance helps the fluid move into the rear end. The noise is probably due to not enough fluid. The fill procedure is fill it once, drive it, fill it again.

Not a solution but check to see if the limited slip differential is at issue. Honda extended the warranty on some models back in the day (in my case up to 108K miles), but I still battle this annoying, dreaded grinding noise on my 2004 Civic hybrid (now at 169K miles).

Recommended service for your 2006 Honda Ridgeline:
Replace VTM-4 rear differential fluid: Driving in mountainous areas at very low vehicle speeds or trailer towing results in higher level of mechanical (shear) stress to fluid or frequently fully loaded. This requires differential fluid changes more frequently than recommended by the Maintenance Minder. If you regularly drive your vehicle under these conditions, have the differential fluid changed at 7,500 miles (12,000 km), then every 15,000 miles (24,000 km).
no tune up needed until 100000 miles. run a couple of fillups of Shell or Chevron premium gas thru it to clean out fuel system and clean engine. Walmart fuel station also have gas additive you can buy with your gas.
