2003 dodge neon timing belt

Considering purchasing this vehicle from a used car dealer. Mileage is 121000. My mechanic cannot tell if it was replaced and the dealer has no repair records on the vehicle. Any idea when timing belts on these vehicles should be replaced?

At you mileage, I say its due, not worth risking it breaking and bending the valves, also recomended changing are the water pump, timing belt tensioner, and idler for teh regular belts
Probably cost around $500 - $750

Is a 2003 Dodge Neon 2.0L an interference engine

Your 2.0L is an interference engine. Since this engine is "SOHC" the timing belt will be easier than the larger 2.4L DOHC engine. When you are ready to perform the repair, please consider buying the timing belt kit. It includes a new water-pump and belt tensioner. If you have any other questions, feel free to write back. Please let me know how the repair goes, good luck.

Replaced the brain box,but still wont start

Yes unforunatly, unless you know of a good repair shop that has the proper equipment. The thing is you vehicle may run with just a junk yard "brain box" (powertrain control module or PCM) but it wouldn't have the correct info in it (VIN gor that vehicle or mileage etc...). WWhat's cuasing the vehicle not to run is the anti theft. Your vehicles keys have a transpoder or chip in it that goes to a "brain box" (Sentry key immobilizer module or SKIM) that in turn sends a signal to the PCM telling it that nobody has just broke into the ignition switch and is just turning it with a screwdriver or something. There is really no way to bypass it either. Wish I had better news but I hope this helped

I have a 2003 dodge neon with manual transmission and would like to know how often the timing belt should be changed

Factory recommends every 90,000, but some mechanics recommends 60,000 to 80,000 because if it breaks it can ruin the motor. My mechanic quoted me $500 to replace the belt and gears. He said the gears will usually last 2 belts, but they don't add that much to the total and are cheap insurance.

2003 dodge neon was over heating, we changed the thermostat but that did not help. We are thinking its the waterpump and need to know how to change it and if it is true that the timing belt has to be...

never done one but i think its a plastic pulley on a metal shaft which breaks free and this is causing your problem ,not a bad idea to change the belt at the same time though ,then paint teh date and mileage on the timing cover to avoid confusion if car is repaid at a later date

2003 Dodge Neon: P0016 (already replaced sensors, belt, tensioner

the computer may need to be reflashed. if it is running then it is not a bad sensor. either of those being bad would cause it not to run.

Car shuts off electrically when running for no apparent reason

check out your wiring under your steering column covers. there has always been an issue with those wires getting hot and shorting out or burning up all together. headlights are affected the most but it is sparatic as to what it affects in that harness.
