I have a 1990 GMC sierra, 2500 that is not starting. It's cranking though. I have a new distributor in, I have ohmed the coil- it checks out on continuty. But I still have no spark supply to the distributor ! Could the coil still be bad ? PS I did check the coil wire too, its okay.

SOURCE: truck turns over but won't start 87 gmc 4x4

Well, if it was running prior to your replacing the plugs, then somewhere you went amiss. Check the firing order. If when you crank the engine over and it pops and backfires then you have a few plug wires mixed up. Other than that the other item to check would be the rotor button in side the cap. Is it lined up correctly or broken? Good luck.

SOURCE: F150 V 8 NO Spark replaced coil / distributor w/

There is no crank shaft sensor for this truck, check all fuses, make sure there is none blown, check for 12 volts at the coil,if there is no voltage at the coil, replace the ignition switch,if there is voltage at the coil, make sure the rotor button,is turning when turning the engine over with the starter. If the rotor button ,is not turning, then the timing chain,in the engine has broke.I do not know how to tell you to check the map sensor, but if it is bad,it will not fire.

Does the 1991 GMC Sierra 2500 have a starter relay ignition modual

NO VIN told so>?
C2500 or K2500, Sierra is trim.
a PICKUP truck>?
Not a Suburban right?

most cars made have starter relay so the super expensive ignition switch does not burn up ST contacts.
and cars GAS have ignition module, only location changes (if a Distributor it's there) if not Dizzy it's in the ECU or on some cars fire wall to COP coils.
1991 C2500 guess a Pickup is it?
4.3L engine, sorry not doing all 5 engines and diesel
shows distributor and ICM and 1 coil.
and no relay starter see schem.

1999 gmc sierra 2500 6 liter ran out of gas now won't start

If you are at or near the 100,000 mile mark then your fuel pump may have failed. If you remove the fuel filler cap and listen carefully at the filler neck while someone turns the ignition key to "run" [don't actually crank the engine] you should be able to hear the fuel pump buzz for about a second and a half as the key is turned On. If you don't hear the pump buzz then odds are your pump is dead. Your pump may have actually failed making it appear as though you ran out of fuel. Not to uncommon. Hope this helps and good luck!

97 gmc 2500 5.7l vortec, won't start, fuel pump works, tried using starting aid and nothing, hooked up a scan tool, and no errors came up, could it be the crank position sensor? or the distribution centre...

See if you have spark on at least two plug wires. If you do, but it is weak, you may just need a good tune up (plugs, wires, distributor cap, and distributor rotor). If you don't have spark or it is only on one wire, take the distributor cap off and see if the distributor is turning while someone turns the key. If it doesn't spin, you need a distributor because the bottom gear is broken or stripped. If it does spin, then it could be the coil, ignition module, crank sensor, fuse or wiring to any of these parts. It will take a lot of wire testing and diagnostics to figure out which part it is if it isn't just a simple tune up or distributor.
Hope this helps. Good luck!

1990 gmc sierra(v6,4.3)starts but cuts off after running for about 2 min. replaced fuel pump and relay. could it be the distributor?

Is this an HEI distributor (large cap with coil on top) or a small module type distributor? I am going to lean towards the small module type, if this is the case the modules are known to have issues, remove the cap and check the harness connnection if it is tight then its probably the module. Remove the rotor, and remove the screws that hold it down, when you install the new module MAKE SURE you put some dielectric grease on the module that goes to the distributor as these modules do get hot and you need to dissipate the heat....... hope that helps

No power to distriutor

I would check ignition coil. Maybe it is outside or inside the distributor.Check rsistance. Get ohm values from a haynes/chilton repair manual(i do not know them)NOTE DISCONNECT BATTERY to check resistance. check condenser(capacitor)inside or close to distributor.
