Windshield wipers occasionally move or flop on their own, but it wasn't a problem until there was a hard rain storm and they quit altogether. Once they were dried out they are working again. Dealer can't diagnose the problem because they are working now. Of course when I need them again they probably won't work.
Make sure wiper arms are tight they are on a spline also where the wiper arm transmissin conects to the wiper motor therw is a nut that holds a z shaped bracket that losens up and oblongs the rectangular slot so the wipers stop with the least resistance.

Does the wiper still make noise like it is trying to go? If so open the cap where is attached and tighten the nut on the wiper. If does not make noise you will need a wiper motor.

apparently, something inside the wiper motor spun and now it thinks the down position is the up position.
a new wiper motor is my only suggestion since the sensors/controls in these motors arent user serviceable.
Good luck and be careful!

Remove the wiper arm and check the serrated hub to see if it sheared a pin holding it to the shaft. If it is ok, then you may have a broken/loose part in the linkage. Good luck!

If they both stopped together, locate the proper fuse and replace it.

i`m not sure what you mean by it not working properly i assume that you mean it goes back and forth like the passenger side, but it doesn`t clean the window and you put the blade on the arm correctly then the wiper may be damaged and you will have to replace the wiper blade.check and compare the installation of the driver`s side to the passenger side wiper and correct the installation of the blade

PROBLEM SOLVED! After spraying the windshield with water and the windshield wipers stopped working I took it to a local mechanic. He found the motor had a leak. Replaced the motor ($316) and the problem is solve.
