Mysterious Tahoe Problem!

I have a 2004 Chevy Tahoe. The vehicle starts perfectly fine and Idles normal. The vehicle continues to perform normally as I drive and move up through the gears. However, once I've achieve my desired driving speed which I intend to maintain, whether its 30, 45, 55, 70mph, the vehicle starts this stuttering/sputtering until I let off the gas. Which stops the "rumbling" until I start to press to gas pedal again 30 ft or 500 ft (intermittently) down the road, it will do it again. I just put in new spark plugs and wires. Still malfunctioning. Checked MAF. That was all good. The tires have been rotated, balanced and front-end assemblies inspected for warping, and "play" outside manufacturers specs. All still good here.

Sounds like you have a fuel pump going bad or a clogged fuel filter. Change your fuel filter first.

you need to find the fuel pressure release around the fuel rail press the little tab when the car dies. If there is no fuel coming out from that point, your fuel pump is going.

Some things you can check. First, with the engine off, look down into the carburetor and quickly move the throttle. You should see a squirt of fuel. If not, the accelerator pump is bad. If that is OK, check the spark itself. It should bridge a half inch gap with no problem and should be healthy (have good "snap" and bluish color). If OK, check the two wires that run from the ignition module inside the distributor, down under the breaker plate.Often those wires can partially break or short to the housing...when the advance moves the plate it will cause a problem.
Only other thing I can think of is timing. That engine likes from 8 to 12 degrees advance (depends on fuel quality) if it's set wrong it can make it fall on it's face when you floor it. (bad chain can do that too).

I have a 2000 Chevy Tahoe my check gages light comes on and my gas needle floats and my oil pressure bounces up and down but the vehicle doesn't loose power do you think the switch is going bad

Sounds like the wiring harness connection in the back of the speedo cluster is loose. This will cause crazy reading and the vehicle will perform like normal... sound about right??

Sounds like it could be a dirty or faulty idle air control valve.Take it off and clean it with a wire brush and a non-chlronated brake cleaner or replace it with a new one.Make sure you reset the computer after cleaning or replacing the valve.

I have a 2002 Chevy Tahoe. for the past 6 months

without hearing exact noise it is hard to diagnose. these vehicles had a normal cold start knocking noise due to the low friction rings used allowed piston some extra movement. when carbon builds up on pistons it gets worse will go away after about a minute running. it does not affect life of engine or performance. i think this may be noise you hear. or possible it is a lifter leaking down and taking a while to pump up

2000 buick century idles fast when cold I let it run for couple minutes turn off start back up and idles just fine

Is the car idling faster than it has in the past when cold? The car is designed to idle a little faster than normal during warm up, to warm the engine quicker, and to keep it running. The fuel/air mix richens, (more fuel in the mix than normal), during start up conditions, and then as the engine warms, it should idle down to normal. Have you allowed it to continue its fast idle to see if it idles back down? Your post indicates that you turn it off and re-start to prompt the car to idle down. You have electronic fuel injection. The system adjusts to the prevalaint conditions to give you the perfect mix regardless of the condition it is presented with. It gathers input from a series of sensors that detect engine temp, outside temp, humidity and air pressure, to deliver the mix it needs. Often, when the mix is off, it is a result of a faulty sensor. This can be detected by running a fault code diagnostic check. You can have this performed for free at most national parts chains such as advance or auto zone. Other factors can cause an improper mix, such as dirty or clogged injectors, and/or a dirty air filter. Good Luck! I hope that you find this to be very helpful!
