I took it to put yhe computer and it say p5005 malfution off idle control i replase it it still does it i took it to have a whole tuneup i used it and its doing it more frequenlyi knowrist that after we stop on lights it start doin g it more frequenly
Hi there Diana:
Potential causes of an P0505 code include:
- IAC motor connector is damaged (check connector and pins for damage, and moisture)
- One or more IAC circuits open or shorted to ground
- One or more IAC circuits are shorted to voltage
- IAC has failed
- PCM has failed
Possible Solutions, this should be a fairly straightforward diagnosis. Start by clearing the fault codes. Then unplug the IAC and start the engine (This may cause other IAC codes to set. Just ignore them for now). If the P0505 code doesn't reset, replace the IAC. It is internally shorting one of the IAC circuits. If the code DOES return after unplugging the IAC and starting the engine, then you know it isn't the IAC motor. Visually check the wiring harness all the way back to the PCM. You may need to visually inspect the harness by removing all the insulation off the wires. It is possible that the wires could be shorting to eachother or to other wires in the harness.
If there are no wiring problems, and the code keeps returning with the IAC unplugged, you can check the PCM by removing the IAC wires from the PCM connector (or clipping the wires in a location where they can be repaired easily) and then start the engine (If you're not sure, don't do it. Take it to a qualified professional). Now if the code doesn't reset there is a problem with the wiring. Check for continuity on all the IAC wires. Any resistance points to a problem. Check for voltage on any(At this point there shouldn't be any voltages on the wires because they're clipped at one end and unplugged at the IAC). Repair as necessary. But if the P0505 code DOES reset after removing the IAC wires from the PCM connector(or clipping them), replace the PCM, there's a problem internally on the IAC control circuit.
Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.
Thank you for using FixYa, have a nice day.

I would think the idle speed control valve is defective or stuck due to sludge buildup, try cleaning it first by doing this procedure, if that doesn't work i would have the dealer diagnose the problem as the part is VERY expensive. To clean the idle speed control do the following.
Engine stalling and rough run
issue at low speeds This problem
is commonly caused by a dirty automatic idle speed control valve and
throttle valve. Buy a can of throttle valve cleaner (do not use
carburetor spray cleaner!) from NAPA or Carquest (made by CRC
chemicals) and spray it into the air intake while the engine is
running, use up about 1/2 the can, engine will try to stall hold the
speed up, shut it down and let it soak for 30 minutes, restart and
blow out the remaining fluid, shut it down and disconnect the
negative battery cable for 5 Min's to reset the base idle control

I had a 1992 Buick Riveria that did the exact same thing.....turns out the problem was the Crank position sensor was going out, and unless you have a diagnostic computer hooked into the port when the engine dies; no trouble code will ever come up. After I had the Crank position sensor replaced...8 months later the problem started over again..the finial solution to that problem was the replacement of the Electronic Ignition Control Module.

i recommend checking out your plugs and wires. If you take out any of the spark plugs look at their condition and compare them to each other if there is one darker or wetter than the others that is the one that is misfiring causing the vibration and difficulty in starting.

find the Idle air control valve on the side of the intake and then take off and clean or replace you could try taking a small ball peen hammer and tapping it lightly while it is idling let will genarly free them up

Set your idle speed to mfg recomindation if that doesnt help check the dash pot that is what keeps the engine from stalling at sudden speed reduction

Usually answered in minutes!
it wosks good for a15 minutes and stars vibratting and shtting off sometimes comes back on imediatly sometimes takes hours or 1 or 2 daysitts been check by 4 echanics shops and they dont find nothing i think they let it on parking and let it ron there the car needs to drive for the vibatting and shutting starts they change plugs air filter a complete tune up and change yhe idle control val but now is doing faster first was 40minutes then 30minutes now even 15 minutes lpease tell me what cant it be
thank you for your advise but they change the cables put the idle control valve put a c fliterdid a complete tune up i told them to change the fuel filter but they didnt thet say there is nothing wrong with the car but after all this fixing the car turns off more frequenly it started 45 minutes then 30 now 15minutes thank you for your rsponse
Are you trying scanned the computer car? Check if have other fault codes stored there.
thank for your answer but rihgt now no body has seen my car again i dont drive it because i lost my eyesite complely in my right eye but i like to always have a working car for its somebody takes me any where and dont have a car i do cant it be the fuel filter that hasent been changei havent take it to no place because i havent have somebody to take me thank you and God blees you
the mecanics hat i took it they say the car is fine i told them to do a tune up they put the idle control valve clean it but car is shutting faaster i told them to change the fuel filter but they didnt i havent change in a couple off years i dont use the car to much i will say like 8 to 10 times a year but i turn it on like every 10 days and let it on like 10 to 158 minutes so everything keeps on funtionig this car has a lot off mecanics amase that they dont find the car had the check engine on for many years but it was working good when one off the mecanic replase the idle control valve ligt when off after that i couldnt get a ride in 2 months and the car shut off so iknowest that it wil;l shuts more after stopping on lightsw so i told the person that was driving it to keep the feet on the gas and on the brake when we stop on lights thats how we got it homecant it be something with the gas. thank for your response
