Why does my 1999 dodge intrupid smell like gas

Bobbi, sounds like a bad or extremely dirty catalytic converter. There is a product called Cataclean a bit spendy but does help it is 20-25 bucks a bottle but still cheaper than even an aftermarket cat which runs around $100. Also you might want to clean engine sensors (MAP MAF etc)

Have you checked the timing even though it has spark maybe its not sparking at the proper time

Yes but the spider is under the manifold... Pull your oil dipstick, if your oil smells heavy of gas, then the spider is busted. If not. check the big plug on top/center of your engine for dirt/moisture

I have a 1999 Ram B 1500 Van, auto transmission, 5.9 L engine.
Same problem, trans hesitates in 2-3 upshift, sometimes 1-2
to 2-3 upshift. Posts trouble code P1756 - Transmission Govenor pressure too low at below 15 to 20 Psi. Transmission pump shot or valve body leak stops trans from reaching proper pressure to shift, which is minimum 15 Psi.
Either trans is leaking in valve body, valve is stuck, shift solenoid on valve body is sticking, or pump is shot.

sounds like you need to look through the engine bay and see if your fuel lines are wet anywhere!! There might be a possibilty that you have a leak around the gas tank so jus crawl under the trunk and look to see if it has any kind of wetness around the tank or hoses coming out of the tank!!

NO NO NO.....GO TAKE YOUR VEHICLE TO A SMOG STATION AND ASK THEM TO TEST THE GAS CAP FOR YOU. VISUALLY LOOKING AT A GAS CAP WILL NOT TELL YOU GOOD OR BAD. THEY CHARGE 10.00 AND WILL TELL YOU IF THE GAS CAP IS LEAKING. DONE IT TOO MANY TIME WITH DAIMLER CHRYSLER.
