I noticed that when I shift into reverse my back up lights wont come on. My brakes lights and turn signal lights all work. Except my reverse lights. I checked the fuses in the cab and all were good and I looked in the fuse box in the engine compartment but did not know what I was looking for. I need some help here.
I have a 2004 Nissan Frontier Crew Cab Pickup and my reverse lights aren't coming on when I backup. I checked all of the fuses and even purchased a fuse tester, but they looked fine. I changed one of the bulbs, just to see if all the bulbs just happened to go out at once, but that didn't resolve the issue.
Could this be something with the electrical connection in the stick shift? Am I missing something?
Buy a auto repair manual for your respective truck, or go to the Nissan dealer and ask a tech to show you where the actuator switch is located, and replace that switch. That is the only thing left to replace. That should fix it. Also you could use an Ohm meter to check the switch to see if it is bad. Also check for a broken wire when you remove the actuator switch.
Good Luck!
The reversal light switch is bad and has to be replaced. It's situated on the transmission just below the gear lever and is difficult to get at. The transmission will have to be dropped halfway for access. You will have to let a mechanic handle it if you don't have the necessary tools. NB manual transmission.

if you have air conditioning you will need to take it to a garage and recover the r134, you will need to remove the dash to allow you to remove the heater box, it's an ugly job, I've done a dozen or so and can do it in about 6 hours now, the first time it was closer to 11 hrs, good luck

If you haven't figured it out yet, try the two links below. They have pics and diagrams. I haven't done this yet but, Nissan suggesting to have it done. (Sitting in the dealer having oil changed as we speak. They want $90 to replace the 2 filters.) I'm planning on doing it myself to save about $70. Doesn't look too difficult - just a little time. Parts are about $22 at local parts store. hope this helps. (Won't be back on this forum. So won't see any response you submit back).

the plastic around the gear shifter will pop up with a good pull, then turn it side ways to get over the shifter, then there are 2 screws the hold the bezel down around the radio and air vents, then just pull from the air vents it will pop off to reveil the screws to the radio

You have a reverse light switch located somewhere, generally on the transmission of most cars at the shift linkage, I wish I could help more but not familiar with your exact model.
