sounds like it cud be altinator not charging the battery, if the battery has run down be sure to take it to any auto parts store for recharge and they will let you know if the battery if good or bad, any new models replacement parts shud be purchased here>>>www.discountbargainprices.com
Usually, the alternator recharges the battery while you drive. If the battery is dead when you try to start it, it very possibly is an alternator problem. Also, affects the electrical power, ie lights, etc.
What model and make is your truck?
Older vehicles differ widely from later ones. Is the regulator separate from the alternator? If so, you might need to replace the regulator.
On some vehicles, the regulator was booted by the indicator lamp on the dash. If the light does not work (blown), the alternator does not charge.
You can possibly check your battery cables or the posts themselves. The battery itself may even need to be replaced as a faulty alternator will drain the battery sometimes beyond recharging like it should.
Hi Jenny,
Your alternator should be recharging at 13.5 - 14 volts DC. I would say that is what makes your battery flat if you are only recharging 8.5 volts. Replacing the alternator would be indicated. Since that model car was only produced in Australia and New Zealand I dont know the availability of parts in your area. I did locate one on Ebay.AU for AU$188.00 with the shipping and could be posted to you. You may check your local auto garage as to the possibility of rebuilding the one you have......Mike
disconnect battery disconnect connector to altinator disconnect battery connection on altinator loosen serpenten belt from altinator loosen bolts and remove old altinator install new altinator and work back to start of unistalling
Sounds like an altinator problem. Have it checked out. If your altinator is bad it will not recharge your battery while its running and cause your car to lose all electrical power. When this happens, your car will not usually run for more than 10minutes or so.
have you not left any load on overnight?..like park light or left the door partially open and the dome light would be left on?
have the battery recharge and the next night, make sure that no light would be left on the car.
if it would drain out again, have it recharged again, use it and on the night, make sure no light is left on the car, then remove the positive pole on the battery overnight.
the next morning, put the positive cable back and start the car.
if the car would start, then no problem with the battery, if the car would not start, then return the battery because it is defective.
