Transmission help? i have a 2000 nissan sentra with 80,000 miles i got in it one morning and turned the key on and i noticed the overdrive light flashed about 10 times and went off i started it up and put it in reverse it went smoothly and i put it in drive it was real sluggish the i noticed it was stuck in either 2nd or 3rd gear and it just wont shift automatically or manually so i replaced the transmission with about 40,000 miles and got it together and noticed its still doing it. My alternator and battery are fine and in great working order. It does have shift soleniod a and shift soleniod b codes in it. Is it the pcm or the vss module? please help me

Sounds like a speed sensor is not letting the torque converter go into lock up mode. This condition will affect fuel consumption. Check OBDII for speed sensor fault.

By the sounds of it that could be the solenoid that operates the overdrive that has malfunctioned or there's a bad earth or a broken fuse - its electrical though that's for sure -- you may need to see a mechanic for that one unless your good at diy :)

Overdrive is another gear in the transmission allows the wheels to turn faster then the engine

i assume that you have a sentra 1997 automatic transmission. OD orange light on your dash means that your overdrive is not engaged meaning your sentra is not on fuel efficient mode.

solution: in your automatic stick shift, driver side is a button just below the T bar. press that button until the OD light dissapears on your dash. you're now in overdrive mode.

If the transmission OD (overdrive) light is on or flashing, it means the transmission controller has diagnosed an internal transmission fault. To diagnose the problem, a scan tool that can read transmission codes must be plugged into the vehicle diagnostic connector (usually located under the dash near the steering column). The scan tool will then display the transmission code(s) that turned the warning light on. What happens next depends on the code. If the code indicates an internal performance problem, the transmission will probably need the attention of a specialist. But if the code indicates an electrical fault, a bad sensor or solenoid, you may be able to fix the problem without having to take your vehicle to a transmission shop. Hope this helps.

in the morning, the transmission will not shift into overdrive for a few miles. This is not a problem. It's designed to do this, allowing the transmission temperature to be warm to prevent damage. good luck happy holiday

tork converter is locking out see if you can unplug it as a quick fix it will be a round plug on the training should fix the problem but remember its only temporary as to you will lose overdrive and kill gas mileage by 5-6 miles a gallon but it wont damage anything
