Throttle body in 2001 Passat

A friend of mine said a possible cause of my vw's issues are a dirty throttle body.  My 2001 Passat stutters from time to time.
He also said the fuel filter is a cause.
Can you describe the location of the fuel filter and throttle body for me please.
Thanks for your time

the throttle body is at where the air hose from the air cleaner enters the engine, follow the fuel line from the tank to get the location of the filter.

Throttle body is located at intake manifold ..follow snorkle from air cleaner to where it attaches to motor ..looses hose and clean with carb cleaner there..open blades(throttle) to get behind entry good also..... fuel filter is located in tank and in line from fuel tank just in front of tank inline with fuel line...good luck

Sunroof drains are a common problem on many models. Cleaning or modifying the sunroof drains usually takes care of the problem. You may resolve your problem. I believe that the trouble codes are unrelated and may need professional diagnosis as you need VAGCOM to adapt the throttle.

Could a bad throttle body cause a low hum while driving and a turbo underboost error code?

Has to be at a shop that works on turbos

None of the code checking etc, without vehicle
system knowledge, is of any value to you

Throttle Body is not humming

If you can buy factory manuals for lots of money,
maybe you can work on it, when you have trouble charts to follow

Throttle Plate Angle or % is subject to constant change, so unless
your friend knows the vehicle systems, then you wouldn't be here

2000 VW Passat 4 cylider turbo automatic- motor seems to shake when switching from drive to reverse and vice versa.

Check motor mounts, check CV joints both of thees issues can cause the engine to stutter or shake the other possibility is a fault in the overdrive system of the transmit ion
if you have overdrive . also engin idle should be about 500 to 700 rpm normal any higher will case an abruptness .

I have a Passat 1.8T, any time the EPC light comes up the car will stop moving but still runing until i off the engine and re-start, but at time it will not start after a while then it can start again....

Multiple faults can cause this.

With this being an ongoing problem you need a shop to scan the systems.

EPC is the Electronic Power Control....or throttle pedal and throttle body.
When fault detected engine will only idle.

Dirty throttle body is often cause of no power or gear engagement with EPC lamp illuminated.

Have a 2001 VW passat, getting heavy on diesel and occasionaly reving up by its self, heard something about a cooling temp. senser might be causing it, then some one else said not

It is a shot in the dark at this point. Your Passat, like mine, is a computer on wheels. Get yourself a VAG scan tool for $50. This will allow you to plug into your car's computer, under the steering wheel, and read its functions. It is easier than Windows for a PC...very user friendly. This will tell you of any issues, even the ones that do not set off the MIL(malfunctionIndicatorLight).
You could have a pre-CAT O2 sensor sening bad readings or a bad ignition coil/wires/or plugs etc...
I do not see how a coolant temp sensor would cause those symtoms, but if the scanner says that it is not getting a signal that it can use from that sensor, then it should be replaced. The computer is smarter than the mechanic, but it can take a mechanic to interpret the codes correctly which is why you post them here. Example, a reading from an O2 sensor may mean that the fuel/air mix is off due to a bad spark plug no burning it's fuel or a dirty air filter causing MAF sensor poblems, when the wrong solution would be to replace the O2 sensor.
VW will charge you over $100 per issue. They will give you the same answer the VAG scanner. You can get OEM VW parts on-line a lot cheaper than the dealer, too.
Good Luck!

I have a 1.8 petrol engine vw passat year 2000 and recently it started losing power intermittently but now its almost constant. it dies a death on any incline and even on flat ground it will suddenly...

My old 1992 passat done this when the catalytic converter was faulty but have you tried cleaning the throttle throat, just remove the fat black hose and manualy holding the throat open wipe it clean with a cotton cloth with wd40 applied as oil dries in there causing a residue build up.On idle no fault codes will show with a catalytic converter and mine passed a mot.

99 VW Crapio

what tha generally means is your o2 sensor is throwing a fault code. this is mostliely due to the fact that your TPS (throttle postion sensor) is not functioning properly. this is why there is also a rough idle to the vehicle. have the TPS replaced and the problem will be solved.
