My 2001chrysler town and country van horn does not work

Horn does not work with remote when I lock it or when I depress the steering wheel horn. The relay does work when I pull it in with a jumper and the horn sounds. Is the module bad?

When you jumpered the horn relay did you use existing relay power or jump from a power source to the relay connectors?Check for power in the fuse box at the relay connector as the Caravan fuse boxes are famous for corroded wires under the box. Also a quick circuit power test on a relay is to pop the cover off the relay and close the relay manually,in your case the horn should blow if the relay is manually closed.

Check the horn relay to see if it works. Most cars use the same relays for multiple other functions. Check the part number on the horn relay and find another relay that is working that has the same part number. Swap out the horn relay with the known good relay. If that doesn't work, check all the wiring in association with the horn. If all the wiring is sound, then it is probably the horn itself, but that is very rarely the case.

Ok Will check relay again do you know if this wiring goes to a pc module that gets information from the steering column and remote to pull in the horn relay

  • Justin Clarke Aug 08, 2012

As far as I know (I would have to do research to verify), the horn command is not on any CANBUS line. So there is no higher level communication. It should all be a direct wire setup, meaning that the switch in the steering wheel that you depress to make the horn go on should be directly wired to the relay. So, if you swapped out the relay and it worked then its the relay. Otherwise your next step should be to check the wires at the terminations. Check at the relay box, the horn, and on the steering wheel itself. If it has an airbag, be careful, research forums specifically for your car on how to do this without damaging the airbag. It looks like you jumpered the lines once you removed the relay and it worked, so I would get a new relay if that is indeed how I interpret what you said.

SOURCE: 2001 Town & Country ignition switch locked

you need to call a locksmith to come to your home. They will replace one or more of the tumblers/cylinders inside the ignition key area. The EXACT same thing happened to me. The Chrysler dealership wanted to charge me over $400 to fix the problem. My wonderful mobile locksmith knew exactly what was srong the nanosecond I mentions the make and model! $49.00 later - FIXED! good luck!

SOURCE: Van won't start. Just makes a clikcing noise. Horn sounds weak.

THIS IS CAUSED BY A DEFECTIVE STARTER MOTOR SOLENOID, REMOVE AND REPLACE THE STARTER OR JUST REPLACE THE SOLENOID ON TOP OF THE STARTER IF YOU CAN BUY IT SEPERATE.

SOURCE: 2005 sebring convertible- horn goes off by itself for 30 seconds

FIrst off the horn's ground works through the steering wheel,so the wire is bare or the end is broken and grounding in a place where it should not. You will have to check the wires for the horn from the fuse box up to the wheel.
your power feed to the headlights and the door locks has an open ( the power is not connected somewhere ) Perform a wiggle test turn on the headlights and lift the hood, find the power distribution box and begin to wiggle the wire harness.Sometimes the chrysler fuse box under the hood get loose inside the power distribution box,it will have to be broken down all the way to the heavy wires comming out of hte box,you can tighten these connections your self.

SOURCE: Horn blows when steering wheel is turned. Is is a short?

I have or should say had same issue on 1996 cirrus quick fix just remove the HORN RELAY located on the left side of dash relay only controls horn. To really solve the issue at hand you must replace the clock spring on the steering wheel dis-arm air bag before messing with steering wheel to avoid activation of air bag disconnect battery for 10 min then its safe to fiddle with steering wheel safely.
