The a/c control is electric for temp control and vacuum for mode control when a leak occurs it defaults to defrost floor .look for a leak or broken vacuum line first then control panel then mode actuator.

SOURCE: Heat wont blow through heater or defroster vents

The door in the heater box is most likely stuck. It is located under the dash on the passenger side

SOURCE: Cold Air Not Blowing Through Vents

Your last guess is probably the right one. The deflectors/directors are vacuum controlled and you may have vacuum line either broken or disconnected; these aren't fun to find. I would start under the hood and make sure the vacuum reservoir is intact (have seen them cracked) and then start tracing hoses from there.

My Air Cond. cold Air blows out the feet vents, but not the dash vents...WHY??

You most likely have a vacuum leak not allowing the vacuum operated vent/duct inside your instrument panel to operate. Check all of your rubber vacuum hoses in the engine compartment for leaks, cracks or breaks .

1997 jeep wrangler ac will not blow out of main vents, blow out at feet and defrost vents

Maybe your dashboard vents are clogged, obstructed or stuck in close position somehow.

If not, check the air hoses that carry the cooled air to the main vents are not clogged, bent, ripped or simply detached.
If its practical for you, check if they are correctly placed, clean and general conditions are ok if you can.

If above are not the issue, go to check outlets of the A/C unit, its filters for the possible reason.

The air only blows out from the 2 outer vents in the dashboard, not the 2 inner vents. Are they on a separate system?

look at your air dial. if it is set to blow the windows or blow the feet+windows this is what it should be. The central vents work if the setting is "head" or feet+head. also look if they're not stopped, cause there might be a wheel which makes you able to limit or close them individually right in their middle

that's all
