My mercedes alarm does not respond well to being opened with the car key in the door as opposed to using the key fob (remote or pad). I let a friend drive the car who unknowingly opened it with the actual key and the alarm wont turn off. The alarm is one little red light on the dashboard on the left hand side of the steering wheel. The hazard lights stay on for about 10 minutes after every time you open the car with the key also, but the red light inside never goes off. I can start the car if I unlock the car manually and leave the door open so it does not automatically lock itself. I already tried resetting the battery by unplugging it. Last time this happened to me it somehow resolved itself after a very long time,The key fob says K-9 on it (probably the alarm company) and no it's batteries are not dead... Maybe resetting the whole alarm system would work if anyone could tell me how to do that, or if anyone has been in this situation before (seemingly common problem) PLEASE HELP ASAP.

Hello Haq!
Could it be the key just needs re-coding? maybe you are worrying to much as £177 would be about right as that would need coding etc., Try phoning your local Merc dealer or take the key and V5 to them for coding (Hopefully)
Good Luck!

I have a 2001 C240 with the same issue. I removed the positive battery cable from the battery and kept it off for 30 seconds then replaced it. Everything was reset and the key worked.
