I have an AC compressor that is not turning. Is there a way to bypass the AC Compressor with a shorter belt? Would I need any additional parts to complete this repair besides the new (shorter) belt? I can not afford the $1700 the machanic quoted to have it repaired for a few months. I do need my 2006 Saturn Vue to travel back and forth to work.
I doubt it but I would have to see it in person to say for sure.
If nothing is in the way between the pulley before and the pulley after the compressor, you could use a shorter belt. How much shorter would be something you would have to try to measure.
On the rare occasions when a vehicle comes without ac, the factory puts a dummy pulley in the place of the compressor. I think all Saturn Vue cars had ac.
You say the compressor won't turn, but you really mean the clutch on the compressor ??

You have a problem with the heater blower speed controller, they act this way just before they stop working completely.

try having someone kill the a/c while you check for the noise. if it stops then check further into the compressor where you said you thought it was coming from. It could be the bearings in the compressor clutch going out.

The easiest method to do this is to go to an auto parts store and buy a belt designed for a truck with no air conditioning. The belt will be the right size, and you just install it as normal, and bypass the compressor
