Hello, "arthur o'neill".
Your car has parts under the hood to engage and control the throttle.
Those parts, as well as others, such as the speedometer,
and its cable must all be working properly,
for cruise control to work.
Either take it a mechanic, or get a 'shop manual',
for your particular model.

SOURCE: Cruise control can not set speed but cruise ctl light is on

Sometimes the plastic cog on the side of the throttle body (TB) breaks. This cog is "pulled" by the cruise control accuator's cable.
To check, simply look on the side of the TB and check to see of the cable end has broken free. (The mechanisim is much like the brake cable on a bike)

Throttle body posistion

It should be right where the 2 cables that control the cruise control and gas when you push the accelerator. It has the butterfly looking round piece in it that opens and closes with your hand at those 2 cables under the hood.

2005 VW GTI cruise not working

a cruise control is controlled by several items. a switch on the brake pedal (adjustment) switch on the clutch (if you have 0ne) tailshaft speed sensor against engine rpm and vacumm. IF the road speed is too low for the engine revs it wont' engage. If an efi vehicle the sensor on the tailshaft will not tell the cpu to engauge and without this input it won't

Cruise control wont engague

The speed control system is controlled through the main on board computer called the PCM, in order to determine the cause you must have the system scanned for fault codes. soooo.. off to the dealer.

2007 Chrysler Sebring cruise control will not come on. I have read the manual, but I can't get the cruise control to work. I hit the on button and I get nothing. No light on the dash, nothing.

Some of these dont use a light you just hit the on button and set cruise remember if brake is hit it shuts down and you must be going over 40mph, if this doesnt work then check your fuses, good luck.

Have a problem with intermittent cruise control on my 2007 Honda Civci Sedan. Took it to the dealer 2x, still have issues. "Main Cruise Control" lit on dash but cruise control intermittently will not...

cruise control operation is reliant on the following
road speed sensor ( speedo or VSS sensor )
engine rpms tacho/ ignition coil/module problem
clutch pedal sensor (VSS in automatic )
gear selection position sensor ( not properly adjusted causing flickering of the selector light)
brake pedal sensor
bad ground wire connections
r all need to work together or the CC will stop working
nothing to do with vents and all that you mentioned.
wire connections and harness connections for the transmission are suspect
CC will not operate under certain engine rpms and road speed

My Cruise Control Wont work, is there a special way to turn on the cruise, because the sign for cruise comes up but it doesnt cruise

First, your car must be in gear and driving approx more than 60 km an hour
Secondly, using the Cruise Stalk switch turn the Cruise on, the dash should now have a lit icon for cruise power (green).
Once you have the desired speed, gently press the button on the end of the cruise in to set your speed. Remove foot from throttle and confirm cruise is active. Another dash light should come on as well (orange)

Failing that, if it doesnt work the usual suspect like fuses and the brake pedal micro switch should be looked at...
