Distributor replacement I've read your advice to replace my G100 point and condenser with a g200 series electronic dizzy. But over the months I've realized it's easier said than done. I have found 4 cyl G200 but no 3cyl. Is there a way to adapt a dizzy from a 4cyl to my 3 cyl model?

Not really.

I have had success on various units retrofitting with the Handi Van innards.

Can i change the distributor on my 2004 toyota hiace, from an electric one to a points one

- Converting the electronic distributor of a 2004 Toyota HiAce to a points-based one is technically feasible but not advisable due to complex modifications and compatibility issues.
- Electronic distributors provide more precise ignition timing, better engine performance, fuel efficiency, and emissions compared to points-based systems.
- Electronic distributors are generally maintenance-free, while points-based systems require regular maintenance and adjustments.
- Finding a points-based distributor compatible with the specific 2004 HiAce engine may be challenging and costly.
- Downgrading the HiAce's electronic distributor to a points-based system is not recommended.
- If encountering issues with the electronic distributor, seek advice from a qualified mechanic for proper diagnosis and repair.
- Alternatives include repairing the existing electronic distributor if the issue is minor or replacing it with a compatible aftermarket unit designed for the HiAce engine if complete replacement is necessary.
- Modifying critical components like the ignition system can impact the safety and reliability of the vehicle, so always consult a qualified mechanic for any modifications or repairs.

I have a Mazda 323 1977 1.4 Ltr I seem to be replacing the condenser (near the ignition coil) every few months. not sure why

condenser usually is placed closer to the dizzy.
Negative from coil, through condenser, through to points.

I have a few issues going on at once with a 67 mgb this car stands a lot of time only really moves for rego inspection any how I had trouble getting it to run I pulled the dizzy and didnt observe the

pull no 1 plug and turn the crank until you feel compression under your thumb over the plug hole.. Keep going until the timing mark lines up with the pointer ( about 10 degrees advanced) check and ensure that the point gap are set correctly Place the rotor button facing no 1 plug lead or a mark in the body of the distributor. (hacksaw cut across the lip) place the distributor in the hole allowing for the rotor button to turn because of the cut of the gears . Turn the ignition on and turn the body of the distributor until you see/hear a spark across the points. lock the distributor at this point (This should be just as the points open in the direction of rotation) fit the cap and fit the leads in the firing order. This will get the engine started and by the use of a timing light on no 1 cylinder lead you can set the timing exactly.

Why wont my 1998 astro van start?

With the engine at #1 TDC your rotor bug should be pointing at your #1 plug wire.

if you take old dizzy out, wherever motor is stopped, just put new one in,taking note of position of rotor,to where the old rotor was pointing.pick a spot on the motor or bonnet when you first take cap off,to where rotor is pointing, then note where dizzy sitting in relation to clamp bolt.OR,get timing pulley on TDC,then note where rotor pointing

Ford engine in jgl man lift has no spark

Does this engine have a self contained distributor with points and condenser? If so, check the point gap and condition of the points. With the points open, measure the movable side for battery voltage (12.6 volts?) When the points close, there should be no voltage at the movable arm (if there is, the point surfaces may be dirty). The point gap should be about .018" when on the high point of the cam. If you read no voltage, check at the coil small terminals for 12.6 volts. If still nothing, make sure the ignition switch is turning on power to the coil. There should be a heavy resistor located between the ignition switch and the coil (check for power at both ends). If the distributor is an electronic one, repairs are limited to replacing modules, one in the distributor and one exterior. Check the under side of the rotor for a white spot which indicates a shorted part--replace it. With luck, this will get you running!

Changing distributor on a xr4ti

I realize this is an older post, but maybe it will help. You need a timing light for starters. With the dizzy cap off, point the rotor where the #1cylider post would be on the cap. That will get you close enough to start the engine. Go ahead and start the engine and let it warm for a minute, then disconnect the SPOUT plug and with the timing light, turn the dizzy until the timing gun reads 13 btdc on a manual, 10 btdc on an auto. Plug the SPOUT back in and verify that your timing advanced. Tighten down the dizzy hold-on bolt and then verify your timing didn't change after you tightened the dizzy down.

Now you're good to go!

Point and condenser

You must put a smear of high temperature grease on the lobes where the rubbing block makes contact; otherwise the block will wear away rapidly causing the gap to close. Something like white molybedenum grease is the go.

I suggest you replace the screws that hold the points assembly with socket head (Allen) screws so that you can get some decent purchase without burring the screw head.

The best solution is to source a secondhand electronic dizzy and coil from a G200 series Charade. You will never have to worry about points ever again and the low end torque gain is quite noticeable. You will need to run an extra wire from the coil to the dizzy and tape off the wire from the starter motor, but that's about as hard as it gets.

Why would you want to replace the Aisan carby? It does the job pretty well, so long as the hoses are connected correctly and the various adjustment screws calibrated.

1988 daihatsu charade carburetor

If we are talking the three cylinder CB23 engine the mixture screw is hard to get to and has an anti tamper shroud to stop prying fingers.

The Aisan carby is pretty reliable and problems with them on these engines is usually due to improper vacuum hose connections, or improperly adjusted idle, fast idle and deceleration screws.

A/F ratio is around the standard 14.7, but being a carby you will not get consistent mixtures because the jets sizes are fixed . On an EFI engine you can control the fuel flow, but not so with jets.

If you do decide to give your carby a birthday make sure you only buy the Daihatsu genuine, because the after market units have issues with quality. The minor rebuild kit part No 0421287704000 and the major overhaul kit with plunger, needles, gaskets, clips, etc is part No 0421187729000.

If it was me I'd be concentrating on the hoses, the PCV valve, contact points in the dizzy and better spark plugs first. If you want much better idling and a bit better pull get an electronic dizzy and coil from a G200 series Charade.
