Headlights remain on after shutting off both the engine and headlight switch off, this occours no matter what position the headlight switch is in. In the switch off position with engine off and driver door open the headlight warning tone does not operate, the tone does operate when the light switch is in the on position and driver door open. if headlight switch is off, headlights are on but tail or side marker lights do not light up, in any state the bright switch, dash lights and dash light dimmer operates normally as well as blinkers and interior lights.
The headlamp relay maybe the problem , stuck closed contacts inside .
When the headlamp switch is placed in the ON position, battery positive voltage (B+) is supplied via CKT 10 (YEL) to the coil of the headlamp relay position J. The coil is permanently grounded to G201 via CKT 1450 (BLK). The coil is energized and the contacts close providing battery positive voltage (B+) to the headlamp dimmer switch via CKT 1346 (LT BLU). When the headlamp dimmer switch is in the LOW position, battery positive voltage (B+) is supplied via CKT 12 (TAN) to the following components:
Does the vehicle have DRL - daytime running lamps ?
The headlamp relay is located in the right I/P fuse box . Do you know where this is ? Behind right kick panel .
If replacing the relay doesn't fix it the problem maybe the • Lamp control module .
Pull this circuit breaker till you can find the problem. Check for applicable trouble codes. You have a lighting control module, I can't troubleshoot that component from here.
SOURCE: Door Ajar Warning Light Stays On
Our Ford Expedition & an Olds Silhouette Premier & both did the same thing. Someone online said to spray the inside door where the metal connects with the frame & sensors are there with WD-40. We did & it fixed the problem. Maybe this will work for yours.

some cars have a plastic cover over the headlight area, all you do is pull it off. it's velcro. you don't need much room because all you need to do is twist the bulb and pull it out.

first, make sure the bulbs are in good and snug, 2nd, make sure the wire harnase is plugged in snug.
SOURCE: 2000 olds sillouette, headlights on, no brake/turn signal light
i would chk. break light switch. should be under dash above break pedel arm. emergency flashers will be on its own fuse, turn signals should have own fuse. as far as interior lights surging that could be ground or alt. chk. battery cables make sure clean and tight. not good idea unhooking bat. cable when running, one spark or surge to computer could burn up computer. besides that realy won't tell you anything if a diod is bad in alt. it may not show up until you tax the system. its best to take it someware like autozone, or any major auto parts store and have it chk.
SOURCE: A 1994 Oldsmobile Royal 88 has a problem on the security system
ok first off let me warn you i have had this problem before but let me verify something before i finish warning you . the lights are on all the time or are you saying they have to be on to start the car?
Ok now for the warning you may not like me very good when i tell you the info that took care of my problem like that the reason being is because it is VERY expensive and may not correct your problem it helps on some of the cars with the problem and some it dont
My car has that pass key cap with the chip made into the key that starts the car itself and has a security feauture that will stop the car from starting if that key is wet, dirty or blown up( exposed to static thus blowing the chip) therre is one big differance though i have noticed on mine it done exactly what yours is but when driving or if i try to start mine in neutral the security light came on .
ok i know you are saying omg what price am i looking at and I honestly dont know since olds went out of business but before they went out it was going to cost me 800 for the chip 100 for key and 50 service fee
Now there is an alternative however to check this out and see if it is your key or not
if you have a second key try using it to start it and see if it does the same thing; if it does then its not the key but the security mechanisim inside the sterring column which means a new sterring column and possibly a new airbag system ( usually a shop Job) this security feature is nice however its alot of pain because after 3 minutes it shuts the car down completely ( the car thinks its stolen )
