SOURCE: i have an 02 accord ex 4 cyl. that need the down

as you are looking at the exhaust you will see the catalytic conveter (large very hot peice) behild it is the downstream sensor the pig tail runs out of the back of the sensor, usually plugs and unplugs right the under the car if it runs through the floor board then you will have to pull the seat and go under the carpet

Oxygen Sensors are coding, and need to be replaced. Is there somewhere other than Google that can give me an accurate Location of where on this Engine the Upstream, and Downstream are?

The up stream O2 sensor is on the back side of the engine in the exhaust manifold ! The down stream O2 sensor is under the vehicle after the catalytic converter ! What code P0xxx what . Just because it has an O2 sensor code doesn't mean the sensors are bad . Should check wiring , signal wire to PCM an Ground .

Removal Procedure




  1. Turn OFF the ignition.



  2. Caution: To avoid any vehicle damage, serious personal injury or death when major components are removed from the vehicle and the vehicle is supported by a hoist, support the vehicle with jack stands at the opposite end from which the components are being removed and strap the vehicle to the hoist.




  3. Raise and support the vehicle.



Remove the splash shield (3). Disconnect the electrical connector retaining tab (1) from the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) electrical connector (2). Disconnect the oxygen sensor connector (4) from the HO2S electrical connector (2).




Important: The HO2S may be difficult to remove when engine temperature is below 48?°C (120?°F). Excessive force may damage threads in exhaust manifold or exhaust pipe.



Use the J 39194 in order to remove the oxygen sensor (4) from the exhaust pipe .



Heated Oxygen Sensor Replacement - Sensor 1




Notice: The Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) and the Oxygen Sensor use a permanently attached pigtail and connector. Do not remove this pigtail from the Heated Oxygen Sensor. Damage or the removal of the pigtail or the connector could affect the proper operation of the sensor.



Take care when handling the HO2S and the O2S. Keep the in-line electrical connector and the louvered end free of grease, dirt, or other contaminants. Also avoid using cleaning solvents of any type. Do not drop the HO2S or the O2S. Do not roughly handle the HO2S or the O2S.




Removal Procedure




  1. Remove the fuel injection sight shield. Refer to Fuel Injector Sight Shield Replacement in Engine Mechanical .


  2. Turn OFF the ignition switch.


  3. Remove the HO2S retaining clip from the bracket.


  4. Disconnect the HO2S electrical connector tab from the HO2S 1 retaining clip .


  5. Remove the HO2S electrical connector retainer.


  6. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

Electrical part to go on my car O2 sensor

There is no separate electrical part for the sensor. Depending on model, the sensor will have 2,3, or 4 wires out of it in a "pigtail", with a connector on the end that plugs into the car's harness.

O2 SENSOR LOCATION

Hi Greg:
On 1995 GMC Truck Sonoma 4WD 4.3L TBI 6cyl the Oxygen Sensor is located under hood, driver side, lower engine area mounted in lower exhaust manifold at pipe flange.

The sensor uses a permanently attached pigtail and connector. This pigtail should not be removed from the sensor. Damage or removal of the pigtail or connector could affect the proper operation of the sensor. Keep the electrical connector and louvered end of the sensor clean and free of grease. NEVER use cleaning solvents of any type on the sensor! The oxygen sensor may be difficult to remove when the temperature of the engine is below 120?F (49?C). Excessive force may damage the threads in the exhaust manifold or exhaust pipe.

Were is the oxygen sensor located

Oxygen sensors are located on the exhaust pipe near the engine. You can usually find them if you get under the vehicle and follow the exhaust pipe towards the engine until you run into the sensor sticking from the pipe with 2-4 wire pigtail attached. To test it you will need to know the proper values to read with a multimeter, or an autoparts house may be able to do it for you. To remove the O2 sensor: unplug it from the wiring harness and fit a box end wrench over the pigtail and onto the sensor, turn counter-clockwise to remove. Using the open end of the wrench may strip the hex on the sensor. Hope this helps!

Four wires (circuits) are used on each O2 sensor:

  • 12–volt feed circuit for the sensor heating element
  • Ground circuit for the heater element
  • Low-noise sensor return circuit to the PCM
  • Input circuit from the sensor back to the PCM to detect sensor operation

O2S Sensor removal Never apply any type of grease to the oxygen sensor electrical connector, or attempt any soldering of the sensor wiring harness.
WARNING: THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD, EXHAUST PIPES AND CATALYTIC CONVERTER(S) BECOME VERY HOT DURING ENGINE OPERATION. ALLOW ENGINE TO COOL BEFORE REMOVING OXYGEN SENSOR.
1. Raise and support vehicle.
2. Disconnect O2S pigtail harness from main wiring harness.
3. If equipped, disconnect sensor wire harness mounting clips from engine or body.
CAUTION: When disconnecting sensor electrical connector, do not pull directly on wire going into sensor.
4. Remove O2S sensor with an oxygen sensor removal and installation tool.

02S Sensor installation
Threads of new oxygen sensors are factory coated with anti-seize compound to aid in removal. DO NOT add any additional anti-seize compound to threads of a new oxygen sensor.
1. Install O2S sensor. Tighten to 22 ft. lbs. (30 N·m) torque.
2. Connect O2S sensor wire connector to main wiring harness.
3. If equipped, connect sensor wire harness mounting clips to engine or body. When Equipped: The O2S pigtail harness must be clipped and/or bolted back to their original positions on engine or body to prevent mechanical damage to wiring.

How do you replace the oxygen sensors in a 2001 nissan altima?

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
  1. Start the engine and allow it to reach normal operating temperature, then turn the ignition switch OFF.
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  3. Open the hood and locate the Oxygen (O2S) sensor connector. It may be necessary to raise and safely support the vehicle for access to the sensor and its connector. NOTE: On a few models, it may be necessary to remove the passenger seat and lift the carpeting in order to access the connector for a downstream O2S sensor.
  4. Disengage the O2S sensor pigtail connector from the vehicle harness connector. NOTE: There are generally 2 methods used to mount an O2S sensor in the exhaust system: either the O2S sensor is threaded directly into the exhaust component (screw-in type) or the O2S sensor is retained by a flange and 2 nuts or bolts (flange type). WARNING
    To prevent damaging a screw-in type O2S sensor, if excessive force is needed to remove the sensor lubricate it with penetrating oil prior to removal. Also, be sure to protect the tip of the sensor. O2S sensor tips are very sensitive and may be easily damaged if allowed to strike or come in contact with other objects.
  5. Remove the sensor, as follows:
    • Screw-in type sensors — O2S sensors are usually designed with a permanently attached wiring pigtail. This allows the wiring harness and sensor connectors to be positioned away from the hot exhaust system. It may be necessary to use a socket or wrench that is designed specifically for this purpose. Before purchasing such a socket, be sure that you can't save some money by using a box end wrench for sensor removal.
    • Flange type sensors — Loosen the hold-down nuts or bolts and pull the sensor out of the exhaust component. Be sure to remove and discard the old sensor gasket, if equipped. You will need a new gasket for installation.
  6. Perform a visual inspection of the sensor. Black sooty deposits may indicate a rich air/fuel mixture, brown deposits may indicate an oil consumption problem, and white gritty deposits may indicate an internal coolant leak. All of these conditions can destroy a new sensor if not corrected before installation. To install:
  7. Install the sensor, as follows: NOTE: A special anti-seize compound is used on most screw-in type O2S sensor threads, and is designed to ease O2S sensor removal. New sensors usually have the compound already applied to the threads. However, if installing the old O2S sensor or the new sensor did not come with compound, apply a thin coating of electrically-conductive anti-seize compound to the sensor threads. WARNING
    Be sure to prevent any of the anti-seize compound from coming in contact with the O2S sensor tip. Also, take precautions to protect the sensor tip from physical damage during installation.
    • Screw-in type sensors — Install the sensor in the mounting boss, then tighten it securely.
    • Flange type sensors — Position a new sensor gasket on the exhaust component and insert the sensor. Tighten the hold-down fasteners securely and evenly.
  8. Reattach the sensor pigtail connector to the vehicle harness connector.
  9. Lower the vehicle.
  10. Connect the negative battery cable.
  11. Start the engine and ensure no Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC's) are set.

2004 Chevy Blazer O2 Sensor

there are two 02 sensors actually on the engine. bank one is cylinders 1 3 5 bank 2 is 2 4 6. it controls the fuel to air ratio, if the O2 sensor is not working, the engine goes into limp mode, which means it is just putting as much fuel as possible into the cylinder, which will effect your gas mileage.

The O2 sensor may be fine, the pigtails off the 02 sensor go bad, the connection. I had in my car, i change the 02 sensor twice, then I found someone said the pigtails may be bad, so I cut the cars wiring harness pigtail, and the one coming off the 02 sensor, and directly wired it with the original truck 02 sensor, and it worked. all 02 sensors look similar, they screw in the side of the engine, and just have 4 wires coming off of it.

Try your origional one, and just bypassing the original wire connector, what I did was cut it off, skinned the wires, put some heat shrink rap on it, combined the wires together soldered them together, and heated the wire shrink rap, so that way it is water proof. car works perfect now.

Spark problem on 97 TJ

Mine did the very same thing and it turned out to be the crank sensor back by the bellhousing drivers side easy to change.
