VW Jetta Transmission Locked Up & Car Won't Start

After messing with the fuses the transmission locked up. I am pretty sure all of the fuses are in the right place because I found the diagram for my car and did everything exactly as it said to. I don't know where the button or switch to turn off the emergency lock is. Right now after I turn on the car it works fine but doesn't let me change the transmission from P (parking). The car is a 2007 Volkswagen Jetta 2.5 Wolfsburg Edition.

I have been trying things and I believe this is locked up because of the alarm. I would need a way to "restart" the factory alarm on the car as put in the dealership factory installed. I guess while I was messing around with the fuses the alarm locked up the transmission among other things. I will never give negative feedback, please help me! I need my car...

This also happened to me today. I bought an OBDII scanner and connected it to the car thinking I could reset it somehow. The car won't communicate with the scanner (not because of compatibility I tried it with another VW jetta.) How did you resolve this problem?

Vw jetta won t start and its stuck in third gear

Check with VW there is a recall on the transmission shift body. The pressure control valve is sticking. Assuming you have a automatic trans. the starting problem can and maybe do to a sticking valve also.

How to check transmission fluid level

Most 1995-on VW models don't have a transmission fluid dipstick for checking the transmission fluid level. To fill and check the level of the VW automatic transmission fluid you have to remove a plug on the side or bottom (location depends on model and if you have an automatic vs. manual transmission) of the transmission drain pan. The factory manual refers the expensive VAG 1924 special tool for pumping the VW automatic transmission fluid into the oil pan.

The trick is to take off the belt and spin the different things and see if any of them make the noise you hear.
Water pump, alternator, power steering, air pump, belt tensioner pulley. You could also briefly (30 seconds) run the engine without the belt and see if it still makes the noise.

For prices, you can check autozone.com or partsamerica.com

Where the plug for tranny on 96' jetta is located?

On the manual transmission you go through the vehicle speed sensor (VSS). Its suppose to go 1/2 way up the teeth marks. Does it not say in the Chiltons manual? I can check when I get home.

Never ever bring a jetta to a volkwagen dealer. They will bend you over and rape you.

All you have to do is remove the top plug with a hex wrench.
