Car acted like the battery died/cannot fill gas tank.

Car acted like the battery died and after 2mins started up. I noticed that the clock still keeped time but the memory on the car stereo lost all its stations. The fuses look good and do not look burnt out. Another problem is that when I go to get gas the pump automaticlly shuts off and the tank is not filled. What should take 2 mins takes 10mins. The fuel door on this model can only be opened from inside. Is there a vent that would not let the gas run freely into the tank???

You have two separate problem. The first one is a power problem. For some reason the power was disconnect. Check battery connection. The second one, gas not going in tank. I had same problem. I had a blockage in my filler tube. Someone put something in tube causing the gas pump to think tank was full. There's a vapor lock somewhere in the fuel filler system

Evaporator vent silenoid at rear by gas tank is most likely stopped up. Is the check engine light on? If so, take to Auto Zone and get them to scan it for free. Get codes only and post them.

SOURCE: 2004 hyundai accent. trouble filling gas tank

The fill tube for the fuel tank is either clogged with something or the anti-siphon feature (what stops people from stealing your gas) is fouled up. The tank and fill tube have to be inspected.

SOURCE: Problems fillng the gas tank 2002 Sonata

i just went through that problem

Evap canister / close solenoid and air filter $211- 230.00 in parts

$675- $71.00 at dealships for this small 30 minute task

If no check engine light Evap canister and air filter - fixxes problem 100 %
note:you may be able to get by just replacing air filter- works
rarely

if have check engine- close solenoid and purge solenoid may need replace- you local autozone- like autozone will pull check codes for free

the how to:

Jack car up in rear - behind right rear tire - canister -canister close solenoid & air filter are located in a plastic box with metal strap and one bolt.

Unscrew bolt everything drops down the EVAP CANISTER is held to plastic box by wirer tie . Remove wire tie and solenoid connection.
There is a small metal wire clip the holds the solenoid electrical connection together with a flat screw driver pry up the wire clip , off is okay too , ....it will go back on.

Once you have done all that you have full access there are i believe from memory 3 rubber hoses with clips ......Mark hose connects very important mark the hoses way the going on evap canister with color tape .

Next, remove whole assembly- the solenoid and air filter will come with the evap canister.

Now that have the whole assembly move to your work bench
look to see how the soleniod hook up to the canister and the air filter - now, disconnect the hose to black solenoid and remove the air filter which hook to solenoid and solenoid at same to ......

Next seperate the the solenoid and air filter- you should be air to put your mouth on solenoid and blew air in one hole and out the other- this solenoid is noramlly open- if air dosen't go threw is stuck closed and must be replaced.

same with air filter- this air filter are know for get plugged and should be replaced every 30,000 miles.

Also note: over fill you gas tank , at fill up - can cause the Evap to get liquid gas inside which cause the chorcoal in the filter to swell up and plyug the system up.------ you should when fill up stop pump gas after the auto pump click off on normal work tank and not try to top off you tank.

note: check with your deal for exact wieghts
weigh the evap canister - six pound - replace it- new one is about 4-4.5 pounds - it is just best to replace .The evap holds gas fumes then send to engine so that dosn't vent to

All parts are dealships only -

This is easy fix and normal, for gas fill problems

canister Evap 161.00
canister close solenoid 43.00 may or may not be used
air filter 7.00

not used in this fix- check engine fix use these parts
sensor price ?
purge valve 39.00
canister close solenoid 43.00

SOURCE: 2004 hyundai accent. trouble filling gas tank

I have a 2005 Hyundai Accent, It is not possible to fill the tank if you are letting the petrol pump run at full speed.Trying to fill up quickly it will only build up pressure and cut off. Next time you fill up just pull the petrol pump handle half way, it will take longer to fill but you wont get the blow back. Modern petrol pumps are getting quicker all the time.Hope this helps you.

Stop and talk to a dealer to see if they have a TSB on this problem,
Dodge had this problem and they corrected it by installing new tanks.

How do I reset the computer on my GMC Envoy?

The EVAP monitor will run only when the fuel tank is between 1/4 and 3/4 full. So if you just filled the tank you'll need to wait. If its at 1/4 tank or less, add 5 gallons or until it's 1/2 full, then drive.

ELSE
The gas cap warning is a specific leak volume detected in the EVAP system. If replacing the gas cap doesnt't fix the problem then a proper diagnosis of the EVAP system (i.e. locate the leak) will likely be necessary.

When tank is below 1/2 full the car is hard to start and when driving it seems to lose power. My check engine light does not come on.

the problem maybe a problem with fuel pickup at 1/2 tank, if the line has blockage, the filter is clocked up, the leveling or device that keeps track of fuel level is defective, there issue with the floater, the part that suppose to float has or full of fuel and when it gets to 1/2 tank, the floater full of fuel and sinks like your out of gas.
i think most likely clogged fuel filter in the fuel tank if your car has this type of system.
if not the fuel filter most of the time its near intake of the injectors, underneath the drivers seat under the car.
or by the inlet and outlet of the fuel tank.

My Mazda MPV randomly begins to "chug" and act like it will die at a stop. the check engine light comes on. Started about 6 months ago. Seems to happen more when it rains. If I tighten the gas cap it stops...

the gas cap and check engine light thing are related in terms of the EVAP system, or the evaporative emisions system. This is NOT where your surge, or "chug" is coming from. The surge could be coming from a Exhaust Gas Recurculation valve that is starting to bind or "hang up" a bit. DO you notice this happens more at lights, or when coming to a stop? if so it could be an idle air control vavle.

I had a similar problem. I gradually lost power (over a week) and then it finally died and wouldn't restart but for a minute and then die again. The solution was replacing the catalytic converter which had been ruined by a bad spark plug. It was a 2001 L200.

sounds like bad gas. go to local Napa parts tore and buy something called Sea Foam and put it in tank. It will work wonders.

Lite poped on for gas filled it and now wont stay going

You got a tank of bad gas. You need to drain the tank and refill with good gas. If that doesn't resolve issue you need to check fuel pressure to see if the fuel pump gave up on you.
