At around 220 thousand miles my van motor began to vibrate, I took it to the transmission place that rebuilt in at 188.000 miles. They said it was the motor & trans mounts needed to be replaced. It got worse after they replaced them at a cost of 450.00. I had acomplete tune-up from the GMC dealership, still vibrated. The Transmission place said it was the harmonic balancer, I replaced that and the lower pully, still vibrates. It vibrates more when in gear, when stopped I ca really feel the vibration, travelling at highway speeds I can feel the vibration in the steering wheel and the gas pedal. Any Ideas to correct the problem would be greatly appreciated. One person has indicated that it might be exhaust resonance.
Exhaust resonance is unlikely
vibration is caused by something spinning that is out of balance
it can also be from a misfire or a mechanical problem
considering the mechanical problems
harmonic balancer - replaced delete reference unless loose bolt
loose clutch pressure plate --no information as to auto or manual--possible
cracked flex plate--no information as to auto or manual ---possible
failing cam shaft lobes --cam nobes wearing off causing valve timing problems --very possible
faulty hydraulic lifters --pumping up and holding a valve off the seat -possible
hydraulic follower failure --excessive valve clearance altering valve timing --very possible
ignition timing too far advanced -- tune up should have checked that but is a possibility
failed water pump bearings --noisy but a possibility
viscous fan hub ( if not electric fans )-- a distinct possibility--bearing failure and fan running off center-off balance
injectors --- any injector squirting but not the same amount as the others will cause a harmonic unbalance --possible
except for the cam shaft as mentioned , the engine has done 30.000 miles so any fault in the rebuild would be shown up before that mileage was done
drive line problems ---unlikely as you state it vibrates when stationary and that confines it back to the engine and transmission
only parts spinning are the engine parts and the input shafts , torque converter or clutch
SOURCE: The car vibrates when it idles. It vibrates so
sounds like it has a bad motor mount, once the rubber wears out, it is metal to metal and there is nothing to coushin the vibrations from the engine.
SOURCE: i have a vibration noise at highway speeds and its
you need to have the front end inspected those vans are notorious for idler arms

Usually a vibration is due to one or more parts that have become worn or damaged. I'm not sure why you mentioned the tires but don't disregard them unless you know that they are fine. Check for correct inflation (on the door jam), for uneven tread wear, or bubbles and damage.
Other things that can cause a vibration is the front-end needing an alignment, a tire that is unbalanced, worn out steering components (like a wheel-bearing), defective u-joints and/or an unbalanced drive-shaft, or low gear-oil level in the drive-axle can cause damage to the ring & pinion gear. The damage would primarily be on one side. So when you let off the gas pedal the sound goes away. Check as much as you can and let me know how it is going.

If it is fitted with propshaft you can check the balancing. Some vehicles are fitted with 2 propshafts that is linked in the center with a center carrier bearing. Check if it is tight and not worn and aligned.
