SOURCE: key not turning
Just had the same thing happen to me with my 2001 T&C. As soon as I explained this to the tow truck driver that came to tow my vehicle to the shop, he chuckled and said "put the key in the ignition and then hit the key with the palm of your hand a couple of times." Apparently the tumblers just weren't lined up properly. He still suggested getting the ignition replaced, but at least now I know what to do. Hope this works for you.

I have had this same problem on 4 of my Jeeps. A locksmith provided me with two answers.
This key thing happens to me at least once a week.
It is a common problem with Jeeps. 1998 Wrangler, 2007 Cherokee and two 2000 Cherokees all had the issue.
1. Replace the tumbler assembly. $150. USD (Not!)
2. Place the key in the ignition, smartly impact the key on the **** end, end that is sticking out of the ignition. (Harder is not better) strike straight on as to not break the key off. 4 or 5 strikes should fix the problem every time.
FYI - flooding the switch with WD-40 will not fix the issue, it is a tumbler problem.

is it the right key for that car? cause if not then that is the problem... if it is the right key, then you might have to replace the key cylinder cause you may have something broken in it...
SOURCE: Steering wheel locked in place, key will not turn...
Very likely the steering thrust stored in the tires attempting to turn back is forcing excessive tension against the steering lock.
Try (very hard) to turn the steering wheel either direction while turning the key gently.
If that solves it you can avoid this by letting go of the steering after stopping to park, turn off the ignition slowly (engine off, pause, then key out). This will ensure that the steering wheel comes to rest prior to locking the column.

the key may be worn badly or the ignition needs to be replaced.
