What could make a 2002 ford taurus over heat

Ford taurus is over heating. Fluid level seems to be okay. a check with a anti freeze checker floats all five balls. oil has no water in it. fans are both running at a idle. turned on the heater to help cool which caused the gauge to show a little cooler (got it home 1/2 mile). hose going into the thermostat seems to have some preasure when not running.

SOURCE: overheating engine in 24 valve 96 ford taurus 6 cyl

the thermostat can be easily changed from up top, the T-stat is located at the engine end of the upper radiator hose under the flange the hose connects to. Make sure u follow manufacturer's cooling system bleeding procedures when you refill after the T-stat is changed out.

when you replaced all of that stuff on the vehicle did you make sure that you don't have a vapor lock in the highest anti-freeze line? to fix run vehicle with line disconnected so air can escape then reconnect. if that dont work you will need to put a T splice in the top anti-freeze line so when the vehicle is running you can open the valve and let air out.

SOURCE: i have a 2000 ford windstar no heat still

My 99 windstar did this too. It was the blend door that the actuator motor goes into was broke. When you pull the actuator out look into the hole and see if you see a d shape piece coming out of the box if it is not d shape it is broke check out this site great photos

No heat but blows cold air

First, amke sure your air cinditioner is on the off position, Next, check your resovoir for your anti-freeze..coolant level, last thing I can thing of is it could be your heat exchanger.

Thanks, Terry

My 2002 Ford Taurus runs hot, sometimes leaks anti-freeze from what appears to be under the reservoir area and I've also seen green fluid near the back (closest to the dash area) and I have no heat or a/c....

You have a crack in your coolant res. you should also be seeing fluid on the ground near the driver side wheel well. This is causing air to get into your system an cause you to have no heat. Check the res for cracks and seal them up or get a new one

Heater is alternating hot and cold air, opened hood to check resivoir and its empty, fluid all aroud the tank of my 2002 ford taurus ses?

You need proper fluid level for consistant heat you may have a leak or crack in overflow bottle,Either replace it or find crack and epoxy it.Remember to run car with cap off for a little while while heat is on max to make sure all air is out of system. good luck

No heat engine warm fan works on all levels directional control (defrost@floor) stuck on cold. ?temp control .

your heater core could be plugged if your anti-freeze color is a brownish colour , most likely your heater core is plugged also when you move the direction for heat control can you hear the blendoor move if you can then again your heater core may be plugged and if it is plugged flushing most likely wont fix it, if you don't hear the blendoor motor move the blendoor motor or the door may be damaged

Car over heats for a few minutes until the fan kicks in what could be wrong. I have been adding anti freeze to it

U have low anti freeze wich is causing the engine temp to run higher than normal and the fans blowing help bring it back down u can take wash off the motor let it run for a while when the anti freeze is full and watch to see if u can see green fluid coming out fix the leak if there is no leak found u need thermostat

Temp drops, heater cools

Sounds like the typical symptom for a failed thermostat which is stuck open.
After the car has operated for a while, check the rubber radiator hoses; if they are not hot and hotter, the thermostat needs replacement.

Heater blows out luke warm to cool air.

check the thermostat.make sure it opens and closes , check the anti freeze level. it will cause it to not heat also.
