A couple of months ago my daughter put gas into the tank of her 2003 Nissan Frontier crew cab (4x4, supercharged 3.3L V6) at a local gas station but after driving a few miles the engine went dead. Before this the truck was running okay. The truck has 80,000 miles on it and was purchased new by my daughter. After the truck stalled on the road, the engine would turn over freely but it would not start. She had it towed home and the truck sat at my home until now when I was able to finally get it to a place that I could take a look at it. All the lights appear to work although the battery required charging after sitting for so long. Checking all the fuses I could find, I found only a fuse to the outside mirrors burned. It was replaced. When I checked the trouble codes, I found a code P0328 (knock sensor) stored but no others. The rotor inside the distributor turns so I concluded that the timing belt was still intact. I then placed a spark detector on the spark plug wires and found that the distributor was putting out at least a bright orange spark to each plug. Thinking it may be a fuel problem, I changed fuel filter which was the original and it seemed to fairly dirty. Still no start. Although I could hear the old fuel pump come on for a few seconds when the key was turned on, I thought maybe the old fuel pump was going bad trying to pump through a partially clogged fuel filter. I did not have a fuel pressure tester. I then installed a new fuel pump and screen. Still no start after priming the new pump by cycling the ignition on and off at least ten times. However, now the engine seems to want to "catch" and several times it has chugged along a few seconds after the key was released but still no start. Things I have NOT done: 1. Tried to use starting fluid (difficult to know where to spray into the supercharged engine and I don't want to damage the MAF.) 2. Checked the injectors (don't really know how). I am now wondering if a weak spark has something to do with this no start condition? I am more familiar with the old breaker points, condenser and rotor type of ignitions. I am not familiar with the causes of a weak spark on an electronic ignition. Any help is appreciated.
The spark should be blue not orange.
But given the story of how it stopped running, I would expect to find water in the gasoline.
Did you drain the tank and put fresh gas in when you changed the pump ?
Did you check with the station to see if other people had problems from the gas that day ?
You should be able to spray carb cleaner into any vac hose to get it into the intake manifold as a way to boost fuel to the cylinders. You may want to disconnect the fuel line at the injectors and check for water too.

Did you check the fuel filter?
or possably the catalitic converter is cloged, check the exhaust pressure.

Disconnect the connector for the fue injector on the left side front of the intake plenemn there are two wires on red one blue these are your fue injector wires, check for power on one wire with the key ON One has power with the key ON, and then take the test light connect one end on one of the wires coming out of the harness NOT the plenem and the other end of the testlight to the other wire in the same connector don't let them touch togother! sue a paperclip or cotterpin to let you connect the clip of the testlight to the connector.crank and you should see the light blink( I just want to narrow down the possibilities) If you see the light blink Good. Then make sure the PINK wire wire going going in the module has 12V KEY ON and also check the two wires inside the distributor that come from the pick-up unit make sure they are not broke the distributor pick-up unit failes commonly, its easier and less expensive to just get a used distributor that works and be done with it.

Hey there boatright33,
A few things things immediately come to mind.
There may be a problem with the engine controller. You could check the
ODBII onboard diagnostics. Auto part stores will usually do this for
you at no cost.
When you pulled the ones that were/went bad, how did the filters look? Could there be particulate matter still in the tank causing them to fail.
I always put this one off until last. Check the injectors. Are they gummed up?
Let me know what you find out

I would check the fuel lines themselves and make sure there is no blockage. If not you might want to check your fuel injectors and see if they need to be replaced. also make sure you didnt install fuel filter backwards.

the owner probably rerouted the fuel line because like my 92 chrysler lebaron v6 3.0 the fuel lines keep seeming to come off and the clamps always break. I have replaced the clamps 5 times in a month and replaced filters 2 times in 2 months. The only thing i could think of is that your fuel is being cut off possibly because there is no filter to clean all the junk out. Try putting a fuel filter on and see if that will work

Thanks to all who have replied. The problem was a sheared pin securing the distributor gear to the bottom of the distributor shaft. A new distributor fixed the problem.
