Probably loses either gas or spark. So check fuel pressure when it won't start, and check for spark on a plug wire. If fuel pressure is low, probably a bad pump. If no spark, diagnose the ignition system: coils, ignition coil control module (ICM), crank position sensor, etc.

An easy way to see if you lost gas, is to spray carb cleaner or starting fluid into the air intake while cranking engine. If it rumbles and tries to start, you know it is a fueling problem.

SOURCE: 1990 dodge caravan starts then dies after 30 seconds.

cycle key, on,off,on,off,on & leave it on (not start) & count flashes from check engine light to see if getting any trouble codes. example: 2 flashes, pause, 2 more, is code 22. 3 flashes, pause & 3 more, is code 33, etc.. let us know what you get, if any. P.S. Code 55 - 5 flashes, pause 5 more, is end of message.

SOURCE: I was driving my 96

First lets define the codes P 1738 shift time error this is a transmission issue
P1784 Transmission mechanical problem 1st and reverse
P0736 Reverse incorrect gear ratio
P0120 Throttle postion sensor switch malfunction. Here is the fix this now make alot of sense when your TPS sensor fails you will affect the performance of the transmission and hence the transmission codes so replace the throttle position sensor this is much easier than the cranksensor and here is the good thing this sensor has no adjustment just drop and go

Dodge Stratus dies while driving

Sounds very much like your fuel pump is done for. After it runs for a bit it starts to get hot & quiets working once it cooled down it started working again. This is very common but more frequent if fuel in tank is low. It realy will take a fuel system test to verify.

01 5.9 dodge diesel slow to start in morning. Starts fine rest of day Why

Check standing battery voltage after sitting overnight. Battery may not be in very good shape, after starting, it will develop a surface charge that helps during subsequent starts. A starter that is drawing too much amperage can also cause this. Also make sure glow plugs are good.

1999 dodge stratus

Try removing your A.I.S. (automatic idle speed) motor, and clean the plunger, and port that the plunger goes into with throttle body cleaner or similar. Quite often this gets gummed up & sticky and will cause it to stall or idle down real low, especially when a load on engine, such as AC on, turning, etc. The purpose of this part is to step-up the idle, automatically when those conditions occur. If it shows improvement, for a while, then starts doing it again, I'd put a new one on.
