1991 volvo 940 gle

My 1991 volvo 940 gle, it cranks over to start but doesnt fire. ive tested the wires going to the feul pump and there is no power there. i have also tested the two leads going to the coil and there isnt power their either. ( tested everything while someone else turns the ig, and tries to start the car. i have checked all the fuses and there good. the power side to the feul pump fuse is getting power when i turn the ignition on. im using this car in a demolition derby tomorrow, so i can hack into and change whatever to make it work .... so conventional fixes can be bypassed just to make it run thank you for your time :)

SOURCE: 1985 Volvo 240 no fuel no spark

well first the fuel pump relay is bad, that is easily replaced. next you have no spark. the first thing you do is take the cap off the distributerand crank the engine. if it spins that tell syou thyat at least the tang or gear on the shaft of the distributor is ok and not broken. next thing is remove the #1 plug and use a 1/4 drive extension 6" long and turn the crank by hand until the #1 cylinder is top dead center(put the extension in the hole of head where the plug was and you should feel the top of the piston also make sure you can feel the top of the piston with half the extension this way you don't drop it in the cylinder with the piston at TDC(top dead center) the rotor of the distributor should be pointed at the #1 firing position. IF it does not that means your timing is off and you need to retime it by taking off timing cover and either replacing the belt/chain or gears. now if you do not have a distributor and you have a coil pack there could be only 2 things that won't give spark. either a bad coil or your altenater is bad(the battery is responsible for starting not running the vehicle like alot of people assume. the altenator energizes the coil which inturngives spark. hope this helps you please rate this thanks

Could you take out a bulb and with a testlight/probe check that you do in fact have power to that circuit .Also check that they are the correct bulb for that application I have seen people put indicator bulbs in where therse supposed to be a double filament bulb.Does the base of the bulbs lead contacts line up with the two steel terminals inside the plug?

SOURCE: I have a 88 volvo 740 GLE and it wont fire.

The problem wont be your timing belt. you need to take out a spark plug plug it into your HT lead and check for a strong spark or even if there is a spark. check your contact breakers on the distributor as well

SOURCE: my 92 volvo 940 cranks but wont start, it has fire

Check your timing. Sounds like you know what you are doing and if you have spark, fuel, and comptression it should run unless it jumped time. It could be off a tooth or two and still have compression. With high milage that would be something to consider.

you are having a fuel delivery problem...and it could be caused by numerous things...such as a bad fuel pump, a bad cold sensor or warm up injector.  You haven't attempted to  solve any of these suspected faults...so take it to a mechanic for repair

Need to remove crank sensor on 1991 940 (2 litre)

Had you had the car scanned? It could be something else? Fuel pump, relay, fuse...
Is there any spark at the plugs? Is there fuel coming to the injectors?
There are a few things that can cause a car not to start, Is the engine light on?
Best way is to get the car scannd, if not you'll end up replacing unneccesary parts by trial and error.
Cheers

Volvo 940 turbo

Check the fuel pump relay (white inside and back of fuse area behind the cig ashtray). They get old and quit.

Second, check frayed wires on the crank angle sender - they could be grounding out on the rear of the engine.

Perform a check on the ECT switch (toward rear of head under the intake manifold (hidden over the oil trap). It's a nuckel buster to remove, and ou don't want to break it.

Also check spark plugs for wear and gap. Check coil wire, and plug wires for jumping spark.
