2002 corolla makes a tapping/knocking sound from the engine

The car was bogging down during normal driving, so I changed the oil and spark plugs. The bogging seems to be gone, but now the engine is making a tapping noise during idle, and increase during acceleration.

I would suggest hat you replace the timing belt. The noise that you hear is the belt.

SOURCE: How to make the service engine light go out after a 5000 mile oil change.

These instructions were posted to reset the Maint Required light on a Toyota Sienna. Process should be the same for your Corolla. Best of luck and hope this answers your question.
Greg

  1. With the car started (ignition on), set the LCD odometer readout to total mileage (not trip A or B).
  2. Turn the car off (ignition key to the OFF position).
  3. Push in AND HOLD the button/knob that switches the odometer
  4. Turn key to ON position without starting the car. You will notice the maintenance light blink and go out.
  5. Release the odometer button/knob.
  6. Turn key to OFF position.
  7. That's it! The "MAINT REQD" light has been reset to warn you to change your oil in another 5,000 or 7,500 miles or so

1995 toyota corolla knocking in motor after no oil

Somehow or another (missing or loosened oil pan drain bolt, excessive oil usage, etc), you lost oil and therefore, oil pressure. Running a car with little or no oil, even for a few seconds, most likely ruined your engine. The knocking sound means you probably threw a rod. Unfortuneately, the only fix is a major engine overhaul or a new engine. Sorry for the bad news.

I changed out spark plug wires last week 1990 Ford f150 Lariat. This week it sounds like a hard knocking from engine after driving 10 to 20 miles. Is my timing off by just changing the spark plug wires?

Knock at low rpm and high rpm" It may be oil pump , After oil heats up it gets thinner and and less lubracated. I would change the oil and add some oil stabalizer, shouls help, if not probaly a rod.

After driving through water engine makes loud knocking sound, i've change my oil, checked my coils, spark plugs,,

water and engines dont mix at all. if you get water in your air intake and ends up in your engine not good.

the engine knock is a sure sign of a blown motor.

Do Not Drive or Start to avoid further damage!!!!!!
get it towed to a engine re-builder

Oil pressure gauge reads normal when first starts. as it warms up, gauge goes to zero. If I rev engine, gauge goes back to normal.

Two things...when it reads zero, is there any engine noise (tapping or knocking)? After you rev the engine does the pressure read normal at idle and function normally, or does it go back down? Either way, you should not drive the vehicle 'till you have a mechanical gauge (yours is electro-mechanical) put on there and the actual pressure is tested. The condition may be a bad sending unit, a bad bearing or possible obstructed oil pump screen. The repair is obviously different for each one and the price is as well.

Trying to figure out where the knocking is coming from, on engine

It all depends how loud the knock is. A tapping valve can be caused by low oil level, or dirty oil. Topping up or changing oil will solve the problem. A really loud valve tapping is abnormal. Cars sometimes make what you call a spark knock when accelerating hard. Extremely loud knock coming from deep within the engine is a bad sign, which means the engine has failed. Further examination would reveal metallic residue on the dipstick.

Engine knock

The idle issue is normal. The idle is controlled by the ECU. There are no adjustments for the idle. Regarding the knocking noise, that could be several things, and I am hesitant to comment without hearing it. Take it to a Toyota Dealer & have a tech listen to it. We are very good at identifying noises on the service drive.

Engine knocking and oil lampe illuminated during idle

Change oil and filter. Use a synthetic blend oil, add 1/2 pint of marvel mystery oil, and drive for a short time, 30 minutes or so. If knock continues, the damage is already happened. Use only synthetic blend or synthetic oil in the 2.7 litre engine.
