Odometer does not work

I have a 1994 volvo 850 gl wagon and the odometer does not operate, how can I repair or replace it?

  • rxdoc2b Dec 26, 2008

I have just purchased a 1997 Volvo 850 (not the wagon) and I noticed the odometer is not working and either is the trip meter. What would be the best way to fix this problem as I would like to keep track of the miles I am putting on the vehicle.

This is a common problem with all models of volvo, with the non digital odometer  pre 1998,, there is a tiny nylon gear deep inside the odometer that needs to be replaced. Your dealer will not fix it, but will put in a new one for you as the cost of fixing in labour is more than a new one,, My solution is much cheeper,, I have
many low milage VOLVO odometer/instr clusters, a few hi'r km 1s

ODOMETERS FROM 1987-PRESENT
I have many pre 1998 Volvo instrument clusters, most with Very low milage, almost all in Km, I have most models of Volvo.

at these prices IT'S A GOOD IDEA TO HAVE AN EXTRA ONE , comes with detailed instructions -with pictures-on how to remove your old one and re-install

just for example
I have 4,, 1994-1997 850/s70/v70 /c70turbo with less than 10,000 km
2 1994-1997 850/s70/v70/c70 non turbo with less than 10,000 km
1 1990 740 -940 turbo with less than 4.000 kms

I also have many Volvo instrument clusters from 1987 to PRESENT with varied milage,,let me know what year and model and milage you are looking for,, I will have something close

WILL SHIP ANYWHERE IN N.AMERICA

1994 volvo estate 850 glt odometer trip has stop working

the speedometer on this car is worked via an electric signal
from the abs system,if the odometer trip has failed it will
require a new speedo head as the odometer is integral
part of the speedo.should be able to pick up a second hand
unit relativly cheaply.

ODOMETER DOES NOT WORK . has same milage since i brought 1 month ago i have 95 volvo 850 wagon glt

Have the same car in the saloon version with the same problem. Apparently it's common with Volvos. Probably it's a gear on the odometer that's broken. Do a search on google for this problem and you will find step by step guides on how to fix it yourself and where to buy the part.

My Volvo 94 850 odometer stop working, I bought

There are actually two gears that you need to replace, a large one and then smaller one that rides inside it. You can purchase them both at www.fcpgroton.com These can also sometimes affect the operation of your speedometer. Do you by chance have an ABS and TRACS light on? If so the speedometer issue may be related to your ABS controller.

How do I change out a non working odometer/trip meter?

This has been a problem with VOLVO especially the 850 models what happens is the plastic senssor inside the speedometer breaks off and it will tell you the road speed but ODOMETER AND TRIP METER will not work and the only way to fix it is to take the cluster out and sometimes it can be soldered back in place or get a used cluster and replace the unit sorry but it is not a simple fix

Cost and how to repair a heater core on a 1994 Volvo 850 Wagon.

The heater core on your Volvo is an easy fix. The dash does not need to come out. You remove 6 screws from the center console, pull that out of the way, pull back the carpet and there she is. A couple more screws, a tug to the back to remove the bad core and you replace in reverse. Put down a plastic bag or catch-can to get whatever coolant comes out when the core is removed. I thought I was in for an expensive repair until I researched and saw how easy the job was.
