Does the vehicle have an alarm system??? possiblly causing fault, or if the battery is fine, check the main fuse in fuse box located in the engine bay beside the battery,

you said you checked fuses inside of car, not engine bay ones!!!!! if you have no electrical operation when ignition switch is on, you either have a dead battery or the main engine fuse is faulty, the power flows from battery through main fuse, to ignition relay and from there to all electrical accessories, ie lights on dash, wipers etc etc

if you have no idea it may be better to take to your local garage, any average technician can solve this for you with in half an hour, sorry you cant get it going, may be a mobile mechanic can come to you, it wont be major!! if i was there i would locate the fault, i have 8 yrs of subaru experiance and currently work for subaru dealership,

SO CAN YOU SEE THE LIGHS ON DASH? BATTERY LIGHT, HAND BRAKE WARNING LIGHTS ETC, YES OR NO???? YOU NEED TO READ AND ANSWER WOT I SAY, SEEMS LIKE WE ARE GOING ROUND IN CIRCLES

  • Anonymous Dec 12, 2008

ok..... main fuse located in fuse box beside battery, its a wire type fuse in that model, its not the standard ones like the ones you may of been checking, it looks like a piece of black wire, make sure you have power at both sides of that fuse

87 Subaru GL wagon. Clicks when key is turned.

It def sounds like a starter prob, if you have replaced the wires its more than likely the starter motor itself, also check the battery voltage

My 1995 golf gl (2l) automatic won't start when I turn the key. The dash lights and all the electrical goes on but when I turn the key in the ignition, nothing happens. I ended up just pulling and tugging...

Check and clean, if necessary, your battery terminals - and then make sure they're tight and secure. I had this happen once with an old Subaru: everything electrical worked (although the lights were very dim, wipers were sluggish, etc.), but the problem turned out to be loose and dirty battery terminals. Started right up after that. . .

87 gl egr light on / is there an after market fuel injection kit? also any repair shops in southern new mexico that could repair the egr system? Jeff

if you look in the owners manual i think this light turns on to alert you to clean the egr system, valve should be removed clean all ports and valve,to reset the light there are a set of connectors under dash that need to be switched to turn the light off, this goes way back for me but i belive i am correct good luck

1998 subaru clicks when starting

The starter solenoid is clicking so your ignition switch is okay. You've changed the starter? Apparently the solenoid is separate from the starter. Check that the wire from the solenoid to the starter is intact and make sure the ends are nice and shiny. Then it's probably the solenoid itself. Some cars have a fused wire, notably older Fords where the wire itself is a fuse. Your "Snubaru" dealer can tell you.

Ignition switch?

Nope, it's the starter or more specifically, the copper contacts under the removable 3-screw plate. Make sure that your battery connections are clean and tight - I've been bitten by that one too many times.
