Out of the blue my 1999 intrique started cutting out and hesitating at 50+ mph's, and a couple of days later started at 20+ mph's and now it does it all the time at any speed almost indrivable, idles and starts fine but doesn't want to go. When it first started the engine light would comeand go, finally stayed onto check and it sayed egr valve and 6th cylinder missing... replaced egr and plugs and wires and air filter, now engine light don't come on but problem getting worst ..Please help, my only car!!!
I hope you had the codes erased, cause you need to check them again to see if the egr or the miss is still present. The CEL does not have to stay on for codes to be set.
Have the fuel pressure checked before replacing the fuel filter, it may show good pressure and the filter is then good.
Just changing the egr valve may solve that problem, but it could be something in the egr system, besides just the valve.
Plugs, wires, and air filter was no help. See if #6 is still missing. If it is, better get pro help to diagnose this, could be a plugged injector or a mechanical fault in #6, something like a valve that sticks or won't seal.
Try changing the fuel filter.the fuel pump may be going bad also. Is the check engine light on?

Locate you computer (right front kick panel) and tap on it with a pen while the car idles... Also flex it back and forth with your hands to see if the car runs rough or quits... You may need a new one.

First try taking both of your battery cables off the battery and then touch the metal part of the cables together for one full minute...this will clear the error codes and return your computer to it's default settings. If all problems persist after doing this, I would suspect that the computer is bad. Let me know how you make out.

If it sat for 3 years the fuel may be in pretty tough shape. If he gasoline smells like a can of old varnish or turpentine then it may have gummed up either the fuel pump, injectors or both. I would start by testing the fuel pressure with a gauge first to see if it is actually pumping enough fuel to run the engine. If the fuel smells bad or your pump isn't working you may need to have the fuel tank removed and cleaned and the fuel lines flushed to get all the old gunky fuel out of them. Also check to be sure you actually have spark at the plugs so you'll know if the ignition system is still working.
Testimonial: "was pulling the tank when i got the email all i been doing i completely over looked checking for spark at each plug because it starts it has three seperate coils so should have pulled the injectors earlier to poor to have them tested but the screens in the top look pretty fouled tho i truely have never messed with injectors before the fuel smelled good and had not but a few water beads but is a bit thin looking fuel tank pumps and has good pressure at the fuel rail but again no way to actually check pressure thank you for your help"
