Make sure it is not the steering wheel lock. Partially turn the wheel while trying key.

SOURCE: how to replace the ignition key in my 2005 bmw 645ci

this can be very difficult to do you must make sure the baterry for the vehicle is disconnected you must remove the casing around the location of the ignition key barrel and there should be a few little pins holding the cylinder in itself with a plug attached be advised though some vehicles with electronic keys may crank over but not run without reprogramming the computer because the car may read the new key set up as someone trying to steal the car just make sure the battery is unhooked this is very important

SOURCE: I have a 1998 BMW 528i, and the ignition is messed

A ignition is in two parts, where you put the key to turn it and a second part that is the ignition itself. Between the two parts there is a small flat pin or bar. This is where your problem is, the pin/bar is broken. You will have to replace the ignition to solve the problem.

SOURCE: 1998 bmw 528i battery died how to open trunk

You can jump your 98 528i from under your hood. On top of the center of your engine there is a positive (+) sign. You have to pry the cover open and there is also a negative ground spot to the left of that. Bmw is pretty smart!

Cannot remove key from ignition

Hope this helps:
Your vehicle is equipped with an inter- lock. Therefore, the ignition key cannot be turned to position 0 and removed until the selector lever is in position "P" (Interlock).

Bmw ignition key

There may be a tumbler pin stuck up that will not move to let the key in. Get some powdered graphite and puff it in the key hole then try inserting the key again take care with the powder as it will leave a black smudge that you can wipe away with a damp rag

What is an fob on a 2000 bmw 528i?

The fob is the Key (generally referred to as a "Key Fob"). The Key plus the door unlock functionality built into the key became known as a key fob, as apposed to just a key. Hope that helps.

I have a 1999 bmw 528i. when i turn ignition all bells and whistles light up but nothing happens as if the starter is not getting signal from the ignition?

First check the battery terminals and connectors to make sure they are clean and free of corrosion. If all is well there you have a bad starter.(provided the starter wire connections are ok.)
