This doesnt happen all the time but twice we have attempted to start our canyon and it will not start. The motor turns, but will not start. All lights and other items work properly so the battery or altanator doesnt seem to be the issue. We can then wait for 15 to 20 minutes without starting the engine and it will then start and run normally. 2006 Canyon intermittently won't start. turns over fine. I think my be security/passlock related.
Sell the truck and get one that does not have the security system that locks out the engine starting. I wish I could but I can't for a year or so.

I have been having the same issue with my 2004 GMC Canyon but I have changed my fuel pump twice thinking the first fuel pump was defective. I am still having problems with my truck not starting.
I have an 06 record low 10870 miles the head went not the valve issue but a bearing in the head split and at idle the front lifters lose oil psi causing a tap noise GM has a bulletin on this issue. dealer botched it up worse. Anyway I had an issue where the first start of the day was extended or rough like the cylinders could not find their place in the timing sequence. As crazy at it sounds and I am a tech I have been using Valero Gas and the truck never ran better or started better go figure
I have this same problem with my 04 Canyon and I have been to the dealer several times and called them several times. The security lights flashers and it turns over but wont start for about 20 minutes. intermittent problem, it doesn't happen every time just when we need to go somewhere like the Emergency room.
its weird but my work truck does this from time to time. and believe it or not we just bang the steering wheel a couple of times and it starts right up.. maybe something in the steering column?
yes i also have a 2004 canyon , only has 24000 miles , ive taken it in about 5-6 times for the same problem of it not starting from time to time..., they never did find the problem and blamed it on an alarm i installed outside of the dealership , even though they disconnected it i have the problem at least 2-3 times a month, my warranty is over, how can we all make an official complaint to gmc, any suggestions.......this is ridiculous and its obviously a manufacturing defect that has been ignored....
Is the security light flashing when this happens, if not then the problem may be a fuel pump issue, they do stick and fail to start.
I have the same exact problem!!! my car never turns on when i need it to!
