Heater wont get hot. changed thermostat ,heaterhoses the engine get up to normal temp it just dont get hot inside the cabWhen I switch my heater on it only blows cool air the hoses to the heat exchanger are getting hot the thermostat is new. The AC works fine but when I switch over to heat it keeps on blowing cool air out of the vent and bottom openings.
Sounds like the valve (flap) inside the dash is not going to the heater side to direct the air. You should hear a softer "clunk" sound when the heater is turned on and the valve (flap) switches.
I don't remember if the system in this vehicle is vacuum...you might want to check any vacuum lines to make sure that they are not leaking/disconnected.
If the 2 hearter hose that goes to the heater core are hot our suppose to have heat if only 1 is warm the heater core block remove hose pas water hose on both side if the 2 hose are hot with no heat the trap under dash doesnt move pierre
Check whether the switches or the controls which lets you the hot air is in the correct position.check whether the hot air is pumped through the tube to the inside air port.thank you
Check out the heater core and if want to replace
The heater core should be located on the passenger side just below the dash. There should be a plastic cover over the core that will have to be removed first. But, before you remove the heater core, make sure to drain the cooling system of antifreeze and add NEW antifreeze after completing the repairs. First, drain the cooling system. Then, trace the 2 black rubber lines from the water pump to the firewall at the heater core and disconnect them. now move to inside of the truck and locate the heater core cover and remove it (carefully though, these things will crack easily). You should then be able to access the heater core and remove it ( there will be a couple of metal straps that hold it in place...just remove one of the small mounting bolts for each strap).
Hi first make sure the coolant system has no air in it, it could be the water pump (does it get hot when driving the car) or last it it be the heater core matrix, Hope this helps

Check for a stuck thermostat. Housing is usually on the engine block where the heater hose to the radiator connects. Replace the thermostat and hot water should start flowing.
verify heat is in normal range using dash gauge. if its normal then good. if it is below normal, you may have a sticking open thermostat not allowing heat to build up enough for "hot" heat. but usually luke warm heat will be this issue.
If everything is fine with gauge heat, check the hoses going to your heater core with your hands. they BOTH should be hot. If one is hot and another is warm then you have heater core issues. If both are HOT then you may want to check your temp controls. either temp control may not be working or the door that changes temp may be stuck in the cold position... there are many things, but checking the heater core hoses are most likely going to reveal bad heater core.
You will need wiring diagrams and volt meter to diagnose anything other than touching hoses and looking at gauge.
heater core cloged, get car hot check heaterhose going into heatercore should be two inch thick hoses going into the heatercore, underhood against firewall pasenger side, after hot while running heater on, chech to see if both hoses r hot, if one is cold, that means there is a restriction in the heatercore, sometimes on older cars there is a external valve run by a vaccume hose, or cable, thats fixed in with the heater hoses , sometimes this valve jams and can be manually switched.
once the truck is fully warmed up, feel the 2 heater hoses going through the firewall in the engine compartment. they should be hot to the touch. if they are, then the problem is most likely the heater controls, such as the temp. switch on the dash or the blend door itself inside the dash. if they are cool, check that the coolant is completely full. just because the temp gauge reads normal doesn't mean there's enough coolant in the system to fill the heater core. remove the radiator cap once cooled and top off if needed. if it is, or was, low, its possible to get air the the cooling system and block flow of coolant to heater core.
you need to get the thermostat changed. The thermostat controls how much coolant runs around the engine and sends signals to your temp gauge to indicate how hot the engine is.
if the thermostat is faulty it wont sent signals to the temp gauge and wont open up to allow coolant to run around the system. Your heating is run by coolant, behind the dash there is the heater matrix hot coolant runs into the matrix which gets blown inside the cab.
Fitting a new thermostat will fix all the heating and gauge problems. if your technical minded you can buy a thermostat from an autofactor (or ford, but they are expensive from ford). a garage will charge about £30-£100 ish for a new one.
check to see if both heater hoses are same temp when engine is at normal running temp if not heater core not flowing coolant may need to flush also make sure it does reach normal temp around 200
Why was radiator replaced?Did it have heat before ? If it was plugged, the heater core may also be plugged. Try flushing it with a water hose in both directions. I dont know why the botton radiator hose would be cold, the radiator should be a uniform temp and the air coming through the radiator should be HOT, when the engine is at operating temp. What condition was the old coolant? if it was rusty, the water pump may have lower flow than normal.
I've had problems with Datsun (later Nissan) engines hanging the closed thermostat until it boiled, then the thermostat released and operated normally. If you increase the small vent hole in the thermostat valve plate a small amount, the problem disappears. It seems that steam from engine operation gathers behind the thermostat sensing bulb and delays opening. The increase in vent hole size lets the steam through and allows the hot water to open the valve. Hope this helps!
heat exchanger not working look under dash find where cable goes from heater controls the hot and cold switch move back and forth to find it its not opening all the way when you move it to hot push it farther by hand this will open the airway for your heater core
Water pump is new to, endinee does not get overheated goes up to normal operating temp.
