Set cylinder 1 to top dead center then set the distributer to the #1 wire contact, snug down the distributor and start the engine, then hit the crank dampener with a timming light while clipped to the #1 spark plug wire and turn the distributor till the timming light is showing 0 on the crank, then tighted it down and timming is set.

Please ensure that this has gear oil because some of these actually ran regular dexron tranny fluid. If it is gear oil a standard 80w-90 is a good all grade gear oil to run in it.

Sensor reset

disconnect the battery for 10 minutes or use a scan tool to erase them. if the light comes back on in a few miles (about 2 miles as a rule) u have not fixed the problem

1990 chevy 350 distributor wiring diagram and firing order

The firing order is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2.
The distributor rotates in a clockwise direction. The engine must be on the compression stroke on the #1 cylinder. Line up the timing marks. Remove the cap and the rotor should be pointing to approximately the 5 o'clock position.
