You may have a combination problem. Your system uses electrical/vacumn. The ducts are operated by vacumn being directed to different hoses by the electrical switch. If you can get to one of the hose with the engine running, pull one off of its ports and check for vacumn.

SOURCE: Front end 95 jimmy

Sorry not sure what kinda noise your hearing but here are a few things that would cause that.
1 Check for worn ball joints. 2 Check for tire pressure. 3 Check for wheel bearing failure. 4 Check for worn brake pads and rotors. 5 Easies on is to check to see if the brake dust is rubbling.
Good luck and hope this helps

SOURCE: i have 1997 gmc jimmy sl5 it will not shift out of 4 hi

I believe that this vehicle has a vacuum controlled solenoid on th edrivers side of the transfer case. This solenoid could have lost vacuum by having a broken vacuum hose or the solenoid itself is bad. To test remove the vacuum line and see if the line has vacuum going to it when running. If so replace the solenoid. If the vehicle has a electronic dash control to engage the 4 wheel drive the switch has been known to go bad. The best way to test is to see if there is voltage at the switch and to see if the voltage changes when the switch is activated. If there is no change in voltage when activated the switch is bad.

My 1997 GMC jimmy is making a loud noise it seems to be coming from the passenger side front tire I check the hub it spinng good

If the problem is at the wheel, two possible causes are a bad wheel bearing or worn brake pads. Both of these noises will only be experienced with the vehicle on the ground and moving. Also, if this is a FWD truck and it only occurs when accelerating, it can also be caused by a failing drive axle or bad transfer case bearing.

How to change a front wheel bearing on a 97 Jimmy?

Vibration is usually caused by drive shaft universal join wear, but could be tires. A bad wheel bearing will usually only make a noise and you would feel a roughness in the cab or the steering wheel. You can check the U-joints by going under the vehicle, grabbing the drive shaft and see if there is lateral play at either end. If it is this, you will cause a lot of damage if it comes loose at either end, so you should deal with it promptly.

I have a 2000 gmc jimmy 4x4 . i have rebuilt the front end with all new parts ,but i think i have a steering box issue now . you can jack each side up and check for play and there is very little play on...

I would look for where the box bolts to the chassis, there is a possibility that the chassis is cracked. I believe there are three bolts that hold the box on and have seen chassis crack there. Good luck and let me know.
