Check the fuel line hose near the fuel regulator for wear as they tend to leak or corrode causing a gas smell inside the car. My 2000 Kia Sportage just had the same problem with the gas smell inside the car.

Hi, I have a 2002 Kia Rio also and just over the last month, I smell a really strong gas smell when I refuel. Since last summer I've had the check engine light come on with the code for a multi fuel sensor which they replaced. My mileage improved slightly but now its back down, the light comes on for a while then goes out. I'm in Canada, however, I know there is a recall on the 2002 Rio in the U.S. on something to do with the fuel system. I've heard other people say that it could be the gas cap or a leak. I'm going to check with the garage and will let you know.

2016 Kia Rio with 30K. I have the codes P0455 and P0441?

Question edited for clarity.

It is a common issue. There are videos here and lots of information. Don't forget that after you do a fix like repairing or replacing, you have to reset the Check Engine Light. Remove your new gas cap and spray it, and all around the filler with WD40 and clean off any residue with a clean shop cloth.

Check engine light is on 2002 kia rio

the check engine light comes on to tell you there is a problem with something the computer controls or receives info from. Have the computer scanned for codes. Once you have those codes post them here and I'll be happy to help you further.

I have a 2003 kia rio with a code of p0455 large evap leak what can it be.

Evap large leak or gross leak, is normally the gas cap. Just replace it. I'd spend the extra money and get the one from the dealership. A lot of aftermarket one don't fit right and can cause the check engine light to come back on.

2006 kia rio check engine light on and code P0455

A code p0455 most likely means one or more of the following has happened:
  • A loose or improperly affixed gas cap
  • A non-conforming gas cap (i.e. not factory/original brand)
  • Other leak or damaged piece in EVAP system

With a p0455, the most common repair is to:
  • Remove and reinstall the gas cap, clear the codes2.gif, and drive for a day and see if the codes come back.
  • Otherwise, replace the gas cap, and/or
  • Inspect the EVAP system for cuts/holes in tubes/hoses (you may hear a vacuum2.gif

Check Engine Light

There are over 100 things (and yes the gas cap is one) that will turn on a CEL, run a trouble code test, Kragen and Auto Zone do it for free as well as other chain stores like them.
