1994 volkswagen won't start yet has power.

I have a 1994 Jetta and I cannot get it to start. I checked starter, battery, alternator, etc. Also, just spent hours taking everything apart to replace the ignition switch and nothing is happening. I get power but it won't turn over or even make a noise. What is the problem?!!!!!!!

SOURCE: Turn ignition key but won't start..All power on, is it starter?

Can be a Junk Relay, access is limited, but giving the Starter a "crack" with a mallet, often cures the problem temporarily. But check the Battery terminals, and Cable to the Starter solenoid ,first for tightness and security.

SOURCE: 97 jetta 4 cylinder will not turn over.

Check, clean and tighten your battery posts, and the power connection to the starter and ground. Make certain the battery is good and charged, Perhaps you have a bad starter motor, or the engine is frozen (will not turn over). I think the ignition switch is okay, because your lights dim when you try to start. This indicates power is getting to the starter (at least some).

Volkswagen Jetta won't start.

Sounds like you have a weak battery, or possibly a bad alternator. The fact that you were able to drive it for 2 days before it died again leads me to believe that it is most likely the battery. You can test the battery by looking at voltage across the terminals when you try to start the car, if it\'s less than 12 volts your battery needs to be replaced. If your battery is more than 5 years old it should be replaced anyway. Good luck, let us know how it goes.

2001 Jetta TDI Battery drain??

If you suspect the alternator, disconnect the 12V line coming directly from the battery and check for current drain. Are you sure the current unit is in ampere (A) and not milliampere (mA)? A 5A current will drain your battery in about an hour. A 5mA current is just about normal considering the parasitic load (radio memory chip, clock, ECM memory circuit, etc.). Try checking your battery. It could be the real culprit.

I have a Volkswagen jetta 95 automatic it won't turn over and I can't get it out of park, there's power to the car but nothing happens when I turn the key , any ideas what it could be

first check the in-line fuse on hot line going from battery to starter if it checks out ok and the battery is full charged then it is the starter

Car won't start. Changed starter. Still wont start. This starter can not be checked when it is off the car.

Hi there?
Check that the battery is charged, you can do this by turning the lights on and see if they are bright as narmal.
There are 2 wires going to the starter motor, thick and thin wire. The thick wire is connected straight to the positive terminal of the battery. The thin wire is connected to the relay which is operated by the key. You can power the starter motor by powering up the terminal that the thin wire goes to. Make sure that the thick wire has positive loltage from the battery.
