2003 chevy venture transmission won't shift from 2nd

Shifts into rev/drive fine, and from 1st to second. after that it will not shift and just whines.

Ran into this same problem... though found out later that it only sounded like it wasn't shifting from 2nd, while in reality the passenger side front wheel bearing hub was shot which was making the a similar sound to an extremely high revving engine. Check that before panicking over the transmission.

You might have burned out the transmission plates, try getting the transmission out of the car and inspect the plates inside.
