Sometimes when the starter gets hot it won't allow the Bendix to engage properly.

Ckean throttle plate inside throttle body...They tend to get dirtier than their counterparts in carbureted engines due to lack of fuel spray that kept them clean. If no luck with that, clean idle air control valve on TB. When doing this, don't turn the plunger, just clean with carb spray and replace. do not loose "o" ring seal.
Good luck

Hi Jens,
Two things are happening.
The first is normal. Your heater gets its heat from the coolant ciculating in your engine. In order for it to work, the coolant needs time to heat up a bit. This is true of just about every vehicle.
When it gets cold again is the puzzler.
My advice is to check the coolant level in the radiator.
ONLY when the engine has cooled.
If the level is down, there can be times when there isn't enough water to cool the engine, fill the radiator and the heater core. The result is the heater blows cold air and the engine runs hotter than normal.
So check the coolant. Open the cap. Start the engine and top it off.
Then see if there is a change.
Best regards,
Mike

Fixed the problem. The linkage to the thermastate that opens the throttle was gummed up so bad it wouldn't open the throttle when the engine got hot thus when it stalled it would flood the engine...simple fix was to hold the throttle open when it was hot and it cranked right up. After a can of carb cleaner and an old tooth brush to clean the linkage it works great now, opening up the throttle as the engine warms as it is supposed to. Thanks for all the tips.
